what hid bulbs should i buy for a honda civic ex 2000 projector headlight ?

nikki

Answer
Well if your talking about color, i'd say 6000k at most. I dunno what size it is, you'll have to look at whatever bulbs you got in there. However, i have heard that the aftermarket projectors don't take well to HID's (they are designed for halogen) and it causes a lot of weird light output and still a lot of glare. So that's up to you if you wanna go HID anyways. Can't guarantee you it won't damage your projectors in anyway though because they are designed for halogens still.

Aftermarket Headlights??(Civic)?

LeeMan93

OK. So i just a 96' Civic and i wanted to replace the factory headlights to these

http://www.andysautosport.com/honda/1996_2000_civic/lights/headlights/jy/jytl00229648.html

my question is that if i buy these aftermarket headlights which are Halo Projecter headlights, i have no idea what that is, do i just take off the headlights and put te new ones in? and do i have to get certain types of lightbulbs.

Thanks in advance!

Answer
I had those style headlights in my EG Civic & plan to put them in my EK Civic (when I get one). They are called halo projector headlights because of the ring which resembles a halo (from an angel) (reason why they are also called angel headlights) & projector based on the make up of the headlights which project the headlight beam.
Yes you just take off your stock headlights & replace them with those. As far as the bulbs it may depend on what they say. If anything I'd recommend SilverStar Ultras (H4) which is what 96 Civics should take.

Best office projector under $1000? (for use in room with skylights)?

ryanmac

I'm looking for a projector for the office... To use for video conferencing, play wii, presentations, etc.

What is my best bet for under $1000? Preferably very much under $1000.

Also, what should I look out for? Steer away from?

And finally, our office has skylights that aren't able to be covered. So it won't be really dark, ever.

Thanks!

What's the best projector under $1500 that you can get for a large partialy lit room?

Fiffers

The room is probably 25'x45' with the screen coming doing infront of a stage area. We would like to move the projector around to other rooms as well but it would do most of it's work here. Some still PP slides and some video. The screen is about 10'X10' and would be about 25' from the projector.

Answer
You will probably have to trade off somewhere. I did a search on available projectors, assuming 2000 lumen brightness minimum (to address light in the room) and a throw distance of 25' onto a 150" screen. See the link for results --- the least expensive was about $2300. You can redo the search with different parameters.

This site also has good reviews, additional info andrecommendations (including lists of popular projectors by application).

Hope this helps.

Why does Portal 2 get such a bad rap?

Stuart

I am a valve fanboy. I have played all of their games and beaten most of them, especially all of the Half-life series, and of course, portal. Now Portal 2 has gotten numerous ratings that were good, but I've also noticed there's been quite a few bad reviews. Some were just trolling, but there were quite a few people were saying things like it was only four hours long, or that the story line sucks, but i thought it had the best ending i've seen to a game in a long time, possibly ever, and that it had some awesome cross references to Hl and an awesome storyline. that was the most epic game in a long time that i've played. ( I did play it on a huge projector with hdmi and surround sound. maybe that's why it was so great.)

Answer
(warning, Valve ramble, read if interested, but scroll down to "REAL ANSWER IS HERE" if you want my precise answer.
Finally, a person who appreciates Valve as much as I do! I know that a quality game takes time and effort, Valve will delay a game several times to make sure it's as perfect as they can get it and that it's well worth the money.

I guess I'm pretty new to being a "Valve Fanboy" as you call it. Became a member of Steam October 5th of 2010, during a sale that cut down the price of Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 in a "Left 4 Dead Bundle" for the price of $10.00 Made the purchase and have at least 120 hours on both of them. Later, on March 12, 2011, I anxiously Pre-purchased Portal 2, it also came with the original Portal, which I have 30 hours on. April 13, I purchased Team Fortress 2 for $10.00 (never expected it to become free within the year I purchased it, boy was I frustrated, but TF2 is still worth it). I don't own all the Valve games, and unfortunately haven't even played them all. I hope to change that sometime in the future, as I have never been disappointed in a Valve game.

I played TF2 for about a week, then Portal 2 came really late on a school night-- but I didn't care. I rapidly clicked the button to finish the download and began to play. I didn't get much sleep that night...

After much play I thoroughly enjoyed the game, within a week, I had almost all the achievements, and from then to now, I've played through it about 12 times (guessing on that) and I don't have a problem with it whatsoever (Here's where I get to finally answering after rambling) I can tell, though, why people can hate the game...
~~REAL ANSWER IS HERE~~
Flying through portals, popping out at random places in the room, the puzzles can really get you on the first try. My dad played the first portal a bit and was completely confused, and I'm sure he'd be confused by the sequel. The disorientation that can be involved in Portal 2 bewilders some people and frustrates many others. I personally haven't been disoriented by this game, and it's a good game that gets you thinking, but I completely understand. But as to why the storyline would "suck" makes me curious... How does it suck? Valve, in my opinion, did very well with the story and I thought it was a wonderful way to either end or continue portal (the co-op makes you think there will be another game). Though if they were talking about the Co-op, i would understand that-- the story to the cooperative testing wasn't very clear. Who could possibly get through the main story in 4 hours? Jeez, rushing through the game like that leaves little time to enjoy the clever dialogue or story. The bad reviews, in conclusion, come from people who either can't grasp the concept of portals and gels, button based testing and cute turrets, or genuinely do not like the story. I know that that's entirely possible-- I can't stand Gears of War, but I haven't the faintest idea why and I despise COD BO because the story and multiplayer are just awful (personal opinions that you don't have to agree to) Maybe it's just a personal preference sort of thing.

Can a netbook do these things?

Quaque

I'm thinking about getting a netbook and want to know if it can do these things:

Use a messenger such as Yahoo or MSN
Use Office or Works
And what types of programs can you download on it? I know netbooks aren't for gaming. I'm not going to use it for that.
Can it also download music and videos? Any information will be useful! I just want to know what it can and can't do before I buy it.

Answer
Let's see, there are netbooks capable of gaming - I personally own one. I can play San Andreas, Underground 2, Most Wanted, Carbon, Modern Warfare 2 and so on.
Usually, netbooks aren't made for gaming - you use it for what you said: chatting, web surfing, document creation and some online video.
There's a problem though, not all netbooks handle online 480p videos - most of them can only handle 360p (standard quality) videos.
No matter what you do on a netbook you need at least:
Intel/AMD Dual Core processor
DDR3 memory - if it's 1GB you should consider upgrading to 2GB, while DDR3 is still cheap. RAM is usually easily upgradeable.
Big HDD(250GB+)
WebCam, Bluetooth.
If you need a netbook for that, let me look for something nice:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230052
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230049
You should also notice that I chose netbooks capable of handling 2GB of RAM - RAM is extremely cheap and in Windows 7 there's a noticeable difference in terms of performance when going from 1GB to 2GB of RAM.
If you consider 10.1" to be a bit too small, consider this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230009
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230010
Remember: if you ever need to use CD/DVDs, you either have to transfer the data from the disc to a memory stick/ memory card(since they come equipped with card readers) or buy an external USB-powered DVD-RW drive, like I did.
That doesn't mean you'll have to carry the external drive with you everywhere you go - it's just that you don't have to transfer a lot of things via memory sticks - sometimes they're too slow or too small.
go to www.newegg.com ,paste the codes in the search box and hit enter to see the product I'm talking about:
N82E16827151231 (this is the one I own and it works flawlessly - I needed it because i had to re-install Windows)
N82E16827135216
N82E16827135217
Things you can do with a basic netbook:
-use all office software(including Word,Excel,Powerpoint and such - I personally use 2010 version without a problem)
-browse the web
-watch online videos
-play BASIC games (online games)
-watch movies(not in HD...of course not)
-listen to music (I've got like 7GB of music on the 250GB HDD and it's great)
-use it for video chat
-output the image you see on your display, to a projector or a TV(LCD and later models, usually)
-they all come with WiFi
-NOT ALL OF THEM SUPPORT SIM cards - mine doesn't - if you've got a SIM card-based Internet connection consider something with a SIM card slot or consider buying a USB adapter.
-send & receive files via Bluetooth
Additional things you can do with a powerful netbook:
-play games at decent Frame per Second
-watch HD videos online
-watch HD videos you store on your computer
-output the image you see on the display to a High Definition TV via the HDMI cable - the image is crisper, clearer, and of better quality overall.
-do some multi-tasking like having ltos of programs open and running at the same time
The bigger the screen - the more energy it needs so the battery life is affected on 12" netbooks ut the performance is increased noticeably.
For what you said you'd be doing on it, I'd get the cheapest one I recommended and 1x2GB memory module.
On ASUS netbooks(I own the 1015PN) you only have to take out a small plastic cover and the memory module that's inside it and put the new one inside and put the cover back - it's that easy. If you go to a computer shop to buy the RAM they should install it for you at no cost.
The 12" netbooks can handle more memory - 4GB , and not just 2GB,like most netbooks do.
This one is guaranteed to work on most netbooks:
N82E16820148316
If you choose to go with the 12" ones, you can buy two memory modules and get 4GB of RAM on a netbook - that's something I'd do given the price of a 2GB DDR3 memory module.
The most popular ports you get on a netbook are:
3xUSB ports
1xcharger port
1xLAN(Ethernet) port(in case you want to connect it to a wired network and enjoy higher download speeds)
1xVGA port(output the image to a computer display/TV/projector...)
1xMIC port(although most of them come with integrated Microphones and Webcams)
1xHeadphones port
1xCard reader slot(accepts all kind of memory cards: SD, MMC,XD and so on.
1xKensington lock(to be used with special Kensington anti-rob protection tools)
1xHDMI port(for powerful netbooks only)

how are 2012 altima HID xenon lights different from 2010 Lexus es350 hid xenon lights?

Robert

Does the Altima project it differently? I'm thinking Altima's reflected back towards the front of the car while the Lexus just projects forward.
Could I simply buy a 6500K bulb or would I need to replace the system?

Answer
I know what your talking about but this will be difficult to explain.

The Lexus ES350 has a special halo projector. Look at the front of BOTH of this picture:

http://www.autodoodad.com/images/415_LEXUS_ES350_5000K_lights_6500K_fog.jpg

http://www.caranddriver.com/var/ezwebin_site/storage/images/buyers_guide/lexus/es/2007_lexus_es350/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_road_test/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_review/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_review_2007_lexus_es350_headlight_image_001/342761-1-eng-US/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_review_2007_lexus_es350_headlight_image_0011_cd_gallery.jpg

Notice that there is a circle projector that shoots out the xenon lights.

Now compare this with the Nissan Altima headlights...

http://www.blinglightsworld.com/images/2011NISSAN.jpeg

http://www.caranddriver.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/news/car/09q4/2010_nissan_altima_sedan-first_drive_review/gallery/2010_nissan_altima_sedan_headlight_photo_8/2937037-1-eng-US/2010_nissan_altima_sedan_10_2_2_cd_gallery.jpg

You will notice that the halo projectors aren't there in the Altima. (the circle projector lights)

Every car has reflectors which reflect the lights towards the road for better visibility, but the Lexus ES350 (also followed in the Toyota Camry) has halo projectors which provide better visibility during the night. It slightly works with higher Kelvin than a normal headlight bulb (I think they operate at 3K).

So basically the lights of a Lexus (with special halo projectors) shoots out vs the lights of an altima reflects inside the headlights for better visibility and then shoots to the road. Although I don't know how the lights reflect in the lexus but they are much better than standard headlights.

Lexus ES350 uses 6500K Xenon, Nissan Altima uses 43 or 4900K (I think, not sure about that).

Here is a chart of xenon lights temperature:

http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00mMnTgBdPpokA/King-Eagle-HID-Xenon-Bulb-Color-Temperature.jpg

You need to have special halo projectors in order for it to reflect like a true Xenon.

EDIT:

Do you have the Altima?

Here's a good write up by someone I found: use this

Questions about Panasonic GT50 THX Cinema picture mode?

Alex

I purchased a 50" GT50 HDTV a few days ago and I absolutely LOVE it! The picture is amazing. I was playing around with the picture modes though and i noticed one called "THX Cinema". How is this different from the regular "Cinema" mode? When i switch between them all that's obvious is that the picture looks a bit smaller but more complete (like it zooms out a tiny bit). Of course I'm completely ignorant to all this technical stuff so what do I know. Can anyone explain this to me? I the THX mode optimal for movies and such?

Answer
For a given manufacturerâs compliant display, THX [picture] modes are intended to provide a set of simple preset picture settings that conform to THXâs carefully chosen criteria for video image quality. Ideally the preset THX picture settings should provide the most natural or accurate video image quality short of a professional video display âcalibration.â In reality, for the more demanding perfectionist it is relatively easy to surpass the image quality performance offered by the preset THX picture modes on the 2012 Panasonic plasma display panels by using the Custom picture mode along with proper display calibration software and hardware.

In addition:

THX picture modes (according to Panasonic GT50 series eHELP, page 25):

âPrecisely reproduces the original quality of the image without any revision.â

âRecommended for playback of THX disc[s] (disc[s] with âTHXâ logo.) THX mode is used to mirror the picture settings used by professional filmmakers, faithfully reproducing the image quality of THX Certified movies. (THX Certified movies have the âTHXâ logo on a disc.)â

any recommendations for GOOD slide projector?

looking for an EXCELLENT slide projector. thanks in advance!!!

Answer
the Kodak projector is about as good as it gets, and that is not all that good, but Kodak projection lenses are made of plastic and are not any good. If you want good lenses, look on ebay and see if you can find some Schneider slide projection lenses.

Can anyone help me find a cheap projector for a mac?

jackrrabit

I am looking to buy a projector to hook up to my MacBook to paint murals on the wall. It doesn't have to be anything NEARLY fancy. It has to project basic shapes and faces from photos. I am looking online and finding very pricey stuff. I know nothing of the field of projectors. I want to be able to adjust the size of the pictures projected from small to very large. Any help?

I was thinking around 50$ for a used one or some such area of price. Is that unrealistic? Any shopping sleuths out there up for the challenge? :)

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful answers!! :)

Answer
You may be able to find an old slide projector used to show 35mm transparencies, forget trying to link it to your mac simply print down sized art work onto thin paper or transparent film then project on to your wall and trace the out line, OK for lettering and simple art designs with faces you may have to adopt a more artistic approach. try E Bay for your projector good luck

whats a good projector compatible with a mac laptop?

Kristen Gr

I have a mac os x (just a mac book, not a pro) and i want to buy a projector so i can show movies/ youtube videos onto the side of my house or a wall or the ceiling. what projector should i buy in order to be able to do this?

Answer
I would suggest the Epson MovieMate 60 Portable Projector. You can see it and find out more about it at http://amzn.to/n8FYfT. It's compatible with your Macbook, but you'll need an adapter from the video port on your Macbook to the projector. The projector can use both VGA and HDMI, so you could get either a standard VGA adapter or a HDMI adapter. I think it would be great for doing the kinds of things you mention.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

HDTV for 12 x 14 conference room - for computer?

KingGeist

First of all I am needing an HDTV for a conference room 12ft by 14ft. The first sitting chair around a racetrack table will be approx 3 ft from the wall mounted HDTV while the last chair will be approx 9 ft from the HDTV. My laptop that I am using already has an HDMI port built into so here are my questions:

Note: The primary use will be for power point presentations and occasional training DVDs or even web browsing. This will not be used by employees to watch Blu-Ray DVDS (hopefully!)

1) What size HDTV should I purchase?

2) What resolution - 720p or 1080p?

Answer
You need to quit being a homo and using yahoo answers.

- for a conference room 720p will be fine. Question is, most stuff these days is 1080i. So really it doesn't matter.

And you don't need a tv, you need a projector.

I would look into the dell ones since that I what I use at work for the exact setup as you. They have auto shutdown, more connections than you would need for hooking up to a laptop. Furthermore, they look pretty good.

The autoshutdown feature is nice because those bulbs get really hot and wear out pretty fast. Also, understand that you will be replacing a projector bulb faster that you thought. Our 2 at work are used pretty much daily and we have to replace the bulbs about every 1.5yrs.

You will also need to get a screen or build one that is 12x14.

Projector video connection help?

Tamatea F

At the office we have an Infocus LP540. I'm planning on mounting the projector from a ceiling post and leaving it there for my training room. Well our company just moved and we spent a lot of money. So I'm a little scared to buy an infocus vga amplifier kit for $250 cause I don't want to spend more money. So I want to be able to connect my projector and save money doing it. Can anyone help me connect my projector to the computer. Its about 30ft distance??

Answer
The VGA signal from the computer should reach 30 feet to the projector no problem. Just get a cable that is long enough. I often get 50 foot cables when I install a projector in a ceiling in a conference room. I have never had a problem even with a 50 foot cable.

You do not need an amplifier kit.

Big flat screen or projector + screen?

Q. Me & my BF have decided to set up a nice home theater. Lots of our friends are into movies and sometimes we all get together to watch a show every week (like a Survivor party). My BF says we should get a projector and a screen and have a really gigantic picture. I say we should get a 52" lcd or something like that. What factors should we consider each way?

Answer
Is this in a dedicated HT room with good light control? If so, projector+screen is the only way to go. If not, then you need to consider the amount of ambient light in the room. If you're able to darken the room nicely (and don't mind doing so), you and your guests will enjoy the larger screen. If you can get the room reasonably dark, you could still do well with a bright projector (shoot for 2000 lumens or more) and/or a high gain screen.

An LCD can be watched in full daylight, almost without worrying about how bright the room is, and that's nice, but THX recommends a screen that's diagonal measurement is .84 times the viewing distance. So, for example, if you'll be sitting 10 feet away, THX recommends a 100" screen, so a 52" screen is really way too small. Especially for watching movies.

When picking out a projector, a couple of outstanding resources are http://www.projectorcentral.com which has detailed specs and an awesome projection calculator. (Here's an example: http://www.projectorcentral.com/CalculatorLoader.swf?MET=0&VERSION=2.14&PART_ID=3884) The other is http://projectorreviews.com - the most in-depth, thorough and helpful projector reviews on the web, in my opinion (lots of screen shots and comparisons, too!)

One last recommendation- don't skimp on or underestimate the importance of the screen. Many people spend a couple thousand dollars on a nice projector, then buy a $300 or $500 screen. It makes a much bigger difference than you might think. The best (commercial) screen I've seen is the Vutec Silver Star. (http://www.vutec.com/Products/Vutec_Fixed_Frame_Screens/SilverStar) it's a high gain screen, so it can help offset ambient light issues, too. It only comes as a fixed (doesn't roll up) screen, though, so it's best suited to a dedicated theater room. If you need something that rolls up (or something that's acoustically transparent- allowing you to place the center channel speaker behind the screen for excellent dialog localization), go with something from Stewart, (http://www.stewartfilmscreen.com/FrontProjection.html). Another option (if you or your boyfriend are handy) is a DIY screen. These are usually fixed, rather than retractable, but you can get very close to the performance of a Vutec SilverStar at a fraction of the cost. Get a good education and learn how on AVS Forum (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=110).

Good luck and have fun!

Can I purchase transparent projector screens?

Robbie

Is there a company that sells transparent projector screens that i can purchase online
Transparent screens allow for images to be projected onto it but still remain transparent, like visionnet.ba, but that company does not sell online to North America

Answer
This is a broad assortment of transparent projection screens and screen materials currently available though the majority of products will be in the form of rear projection screens and digital signage screens. The prices for some of the more specialized screens can often be fairly expensive when one gets into the larger screen sizes.

I have provided a list of manufacturer resources below that you can use to help find distributors and/or dealers in the United States that carry that manufacturerâs products.

3D projector with Nvidia 3d vision GPU?

JoeMTW

Hello, I do have a 3D Vision ready system ( Emitter + glasses ), and have invested in many 3d vision 2 glasses.
Now I'm planning to get a 3D projector to be able to watch movies with the family connecting the projector to my GTX 670, which is a 3D vision ready card.

My Questions is, will I be able to use this projector[1] to watch movies using my PC GPU?

Help with PS3 + 3D Projector?

karl

Does anybody know if this projector

http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-PJD6531w-Projector-120Hz-Lumens/dp/B0033PRQE2/ref=pd_cp_e_0

will work with 3D from a PS3? (For 3D Blu-Ray movies and/or 3D Games?)
How about this one?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/656359-REG/BenQ_MP626_MP626_DLP_Projector.html

Answer
Several projectors are being sold that are compatible with NVIDIA 3D Vision: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-requirements.html . NVIDIA 3D Vision is a PC based viewing system, a PC is required to deliver the 3D video to a 3D TV or projector.

If you buy a projector that is compatible with NVIDIA 3D Vision, that doesn't guarantee that it will also accept 3D video from a stand-alone Blu-ray player, such as the PS3. Many of those projectors might only be able to accept 3D video from a PC with an NVIDIA 3D graphic card installed.

So you might want to wait until a website has tested a 3D projector with a 3D Blu-ray player, to make sure that it isn't an "NVIDIA only" 3D projector.

Does this exist? "Full HD LED 3D Projector"?

tdavoodi

I have been looking forward to purchase a TV, but then I though why not a projector? That way could experience a movie-like feeling every time I watch something, so I started researching projectors. It seems LED is much more efficient than traditional Lamps, also the 3D option sounds fun, and of course if you are getting a projector you might as well go for a full 1080P one. But it seems like there isn't Projector out there that meets all the requirements. The closest Projector I could find is the LGCF3D model which is very expensive and still is not LED which means I would have to replace its expensive Lamp every other year. Now you might think that I am being picky but I think when it comes to projectors one must be very cautious, because beyond capabilities, what matters most, is the contrast ratio and the brightness which have not taken into consideration at all.

Answer
I happened to be looking for the same.

Short answer - if you have the space (for 100" display for example), the budget, the environment which would match the 3D projector, go for it.

I went to LED 3D route with smart TV functions. I suggest you try it in store prior to your decision to buy the projector. Look for passive 3D type.

can i see 3d movies w a hd projector ?

Gino

can i see 3d movies w a hd projector ?

Answer
You will be able to see it in 3D, however, it wont be like the IMAX or Digital 3D theater experience. It will show the images come out of the screen, but wont be intense enough to make you want to get out of the way of things flying towards you. Thats what the new 3DTVs are for. you need at least a 240Hz TV (or projector in this case) and I'm not sure if they started making them yet (projectors that is). But if you're just looking for the regular picture out of screen effect, then you will be fine as long as you have the 3D glasses, and the movie is in a 3D format. If you are just watching a Blu ray while wearing 3D glasses, you will just look silly and you will get no 3D effect at all

Which projector to buy?

Mohammad

I need a projector to watch a lot of movies on, as well as play games on my pc, the wall that I will be using is of 2x2.5 meters (widthxheight).

Any suggestions on which projector to buy? My budget is 1000 dollars tops. that means eating less for months... so id rather have cheaper.... :) thanks

Answer
I have the Epson Home Cinema 8350 and love it. It is large and is meant to permanently installed for movie watching, but creates a great 1080P picture. I think I payed just over $1000 over a year ago, you could probably get it cheaper now.

Looking for a projector?

Ian Z

I have never owned a projector and am looking for something to handle all of my inputs and be cost effective (around $1000). I want to hook up PS3, computer, cable tv, and output for surround 5.1. Something esle I am wondering is how big the screen will be when the projector is going to be mounted 12 ft. away and is there a major difference in the type of screen I will need? And one final thing, there are two windows in the room but they only allow moderate light in the room, how many luemens would be good? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
There is a big difference in the quality of projectors and I honestly don't think you will be happy with any of the projectors in the 1k price point. You might find a projector in the 3k price point that might be acceptable, go for picture quality over picture quantity lol. Yes the screen makes a big difference on the picture quality and brightness. There are specific screens for lower light output projectors, but with compromise in viewing angle for they are focusing the light toward the center of the viewing area to make the picture brighter. Also very important yes the amount of light in the room especially the amount of light on the screen it self is important to eliminate. You'll also want a projector that has high resolution and component or hdmi inputs to enjoy the benefit's of hi-definition video .

Im a fan of the stewart screens, DLP I feel is the way to go in video projectors. I would check out the newer Optoma Projectors I hear alot of nice comments on there newer projectors at the 3k price point.

Good luck

A few questions about projectors?

Collin

Im new to the whole projector thing. Ive been looking at projectors and you can get this one for $150 and you get the the picture 80 inches. Thats incredible. I dont get it, why spend 1000's to get a nice 50 inch tv when you can spend $150 to get an 80 inch projector??? I just want a projector that I can play video games so heres the one ive been looking at. Does this projector look any good?? It doesnt have to be spectacular i just one that will give a good picture. Will this $150 projector be worth my time and is it a quality projector. Thanks for your time!!

Answer
Projectors are indeed a great way to get a big picture for less than a comperable HDTV, but there are limitations that make basic projectors a poor choice.

I don't know this model. It might give you a big picture, but I very much doubt the quality will be good (or even mediocre).

Projectors usually start at about $400, and most considered good enough for video use cost $800+.

The problem with a cheap projector is that it probably isn't very bright (a "standard 50 watt bulb" won't cut it relative to the more normal 200+ watt halogen bulbs), will have uneven light (dim and bright areas on the image), poor color accuracy, poor contrast (the picture will look washed out) and (probably) low resolution. Furthermore it may have very limited input choice (no HDMI or DVI, and probably no component) meaning a poor picture.

There are one or two ~$300 projectors out there that MAY be OK, but I'd stay away from the one you found. While a big picture may sound great, almost certainly you would quickly find it very limiting. Unless you can find a trusted review that gives it good marks don't waste you money.

Home theater projectors?

assassinat

Hi All!

I'm looking to buy a home theater projector and get off of television once and for all.

I'm looking to spend about $1000, and a used one is ok. I'm looking for quality of picture, how well it works with the lights on, and reliability.

Thanks!

Answer
In general projectors -- like most TVs -- give the best picture in a dark/dim room. If you leave lights on contrast suffers and the "pop" is reduced. That said, bright projectors (which unfortunately also mean you risk shorter lamp life) will work (particularly with a suitable screen) to give a good picture even in a moderately bright room.

I commend you on proposing to replace your TV as the primary display --- it's the best way by far to get a big picture and get an overall movie (or HDTV) watching experience that can even beat a movie theatre. Although ... it's worth noting that keeping a small TV is probably advisable for watching the news or things that don't warrant turning on a projector.

This is because lamps in projectors do wear out (Typically they last 3-4000 hrs) and cost $300 or so to replace. The life of the lamp is maximized if on/off cycles are minimized (particularly short cycles and if the lamp isn't allowed to cool properly). See the 1st link on maximizing lamp life.

Now to projectors. Since needs vary widely I'm going to reference a list of recommended home theatre projectors (2nd link). Many are outside your price point, but there are some that fit your budget. Do some reading on this (and other sites, such as projectorreviews.com) to learn more before you make a decision.

Hope this helps.

projector screen size question?

kyle

ok so i want to make a projector home theater. my question is how big of a screen should i get. like L x W. the distance from the projector will be roughly 10-10 1/2 feet and this is the projector i want.

http://www.digitalgalaxy.com.cn/e_80i_02.html
if you look guys its also the higher res not just the 640x480

Answer
First, save your money. That projector is a 640x480 resolution (roughly half the resolution of a low end high definition projector) and the native format looks like it's 4:3 (~square). This means you will be watching a low resolution screen, and when you want to watch something in widescreen, it will likely reduce your resolution even further in order to achieve the correct wide format.
Next, your throw distance is fine at ~10 feet, but with a projector you want to balance room light with screen size. The larger the projected screen, the darker the room has to be. If you want a 100" screen, you will need to be TOTALLY BLACK because this projector doesn't have a lot of brightness, but at the recommended 72", you can have some ambient light in the room, it will just wash out the picture.
Once you've determined screen size, and controlled ambient light, you will have to continually recalibrate your projector (correct brightness and color) because as the bulb ages, it's color and brightness output will vary, and negatively impact your watching experience, and you should look at the cost of replacing the bulb as you'll be doing it every ~2000 hours (or less!)
I generally don't recommend projectors for amateur home theater hobbyists because of all the sacrifices and additional investments that are generally required for the projector to function properly. If you want to do it right, expect to pay no less than $5-7000 dollars for projector and room modification to make the experience worthwhile.
Buy a direct view screen unless you have a dedicated room you can make into a home theater, with controlled lighting, a dedicated audio system (the speakers in the projector will be terrible!) and the capability to run wires through the walls and ceiling to make for a clean install.

*Edit*
As mentioned below, the projector scales resolutions down. It is native at 640x480 and that's all it will ever be able to show. It can take in any resolution, but isn't capable of actually SHOWING those resolutions, it just removes information (detail) from the image until it can display whatever is left. This is not an investment I would recommend making, you will be sharply disappointed. Beyond the low resolution, it's a fair bet that the lens is very low quality (poor focus edge to edge, poor detail) the fan is likely very loud (interrupts your movie experience) and as mentioned above, if you plan on using the internal speaker... good luck. It will sound terrible and have zero bass capability.
IF all you ever plan to do is watch standard DVD's or play video games, this unit might function minimally to suit your needs, but it is NOT capable of displaying high definition. You need a projector with a NATIVE RESOLUTION of at least 1280x720 (720p) to be capable of displaying high definition.

Hope this helps!

Presentation using iPad?

Q. New to apple, please excuse.
Let's say I have an app that can open powerpoints or slideshow: haiku deck, evernote. (I don't have Keynote).
Is it the same as using a laptop, just connecting the cable to the projector (with the av adaptor) and everything will work as usual?
First time using ipad for presentation, don't want things to go wrong.

Answer
Yes I do this all the time you'll need an adapter ( which works for Iphone too) amazon links below. Only difference is that most PPT on your ipad will be displayed like a document which means scroll to next slide not a clean click. Be sure to the right connector for your version of ipad and most likely VGA on the projector side.

Q. I am very sad that apple got rid of the YouTube app for iOS 6, but what is really making me mad is the one that's available in the App Store. Looking for a decent projector for under $1000?

Q. Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

Anyways, my friend has (or used to have) movie night at his house. But his parents aren't very fun and lately there really hasn't been any movie nights.

That's why I'd like to have it at my house, but I don't have the biggest TV (under 50"). I do however have the PERFECT spot for a projector.

I was wondering what's a decent projector for under $1000. All I really want it to be able to do is play DVDs and my Xbox. If I could connect it to a TV too, that'd be great, but not really necessary.

Oh, and by 'decent' I mean good sound and video quality.

Thanks =)

HD Projector, or Flat screen TV (under $1000)?

Ryan Ander

We are trying to build a "home theater" in our basement but we are also having trouble deciding which to buy: a 50" Flat screen or an HD Projector. Let me know your thoughts below....

Answer
Well, the projector allows you to have a bigger picture the further back you put the projector from the screen. And ,if it's going to be pretty dark in there all the time (no windows), the projector would probably be your best bet. If you're looking for a TV 50" or more in the $1000 price range, you're probably be looking at an off brand (like Vizio or something), which are kind of hit and miss as far as quality.

I Need a CHEAP Projector that is around 100-300 dollars. I Am 13 and i plan on playing a ps3 on it in my room. So any Suggetions thta would look GOOD on a ps3 would be nice!!!
it doenst nedd a dvd player either

Answer
While you may find a projector on eBay or elsewhere close to your price range (and a refurbished InFocus 4805, as suggested, would be a good choice if you can actually find one), you should be aware of a few things first.

The lamp in a projector needs to be replaced every 2-3000 hrs, so if you use for video games 3-4 hrs/day, that means you will have to replace it in as little as 18 months. And it could be sooner if you are not careful to cool down the lamp prpoerly after each use, avoid quick on-off cycles and protect against power cuts (which can shorten lamp life by ~20%).

The reason I make a big deal out of this is that a new lamp costs $300-$450 (depending on projector model), and usually only has a 90 day warranty.

Furthermore, to get a good picture from a projector rated under about 1500 lumens the room will have to be dark (or at least quite dim), and you need to project onto a screen ($200 or more to buy, $50 or so to make ... if you are handy) or onto a blank white (or light grey) wall.

Finally, make sure any model you find can be table mounted at a distance your room will accommodate for a reasonable picture size (this is not standardized).

So, a projector is a great idea, but go into the purchase planning to spend at least $250-$300 for the projector, more for a screen, and $3-$400 for a lamp in a year or so (or recognize the projector is a throw-away when the lamp goes. If you are OK with that ... happy gaming.

If you have a projector at your house answer this please?

Sam

Im on a budget here, well no so much of a budget but seeing how these projectors can get up to 2, 3, and sometimes more in prices i just wanted to hear the feedback from people that have the 4-6 maybe 7 hundred dollar projectors, hows the value, hows the picture quality and whats a good brand for the money or a good model. some important facts are its for a small room for movies, games and stuff like that, the screen would be maybe 5-7 feet wide
thanks in advance

Answer
These days projectors in the $700+ range are as good as projectors that cost $3000 several years ago. For under $1000 it's difficult (but not impossible) to get an HD (720p) projector (desirable), but even a good lower resolution projector can give a good image in a dark/dim room. You may want to keep the image size under 90" or so (diagonal), but assuming it is well calibrated (colour accuracy and saturation) and has 2000:1 or better contrast it will give a very good picture.

Just remember that projectors use high cost lamps that last 2-3 years (typically 3000 hrs) and cost $300+ to replace.

Personally, I have had two projectors now (720p and 1080p models) and won't go back to a standard HDTV. The BIG picture is just too compelling.

See link sites for some good info / recommendations.

EDIT: A sub $1000 1080p projector has just been announced. See 3rd link.

What should I get movie/game projector?

Ryan G

I want to buy a projector for my basement and want the best picture possible. Any ideas what the best brand is? I keep reading about lumens. How many lumens should I be looking for? Thanks

My price range is from $500 to $850
Not really looking for used but would this be a nice projector? The native resolution is 800x600. I thought that seemed a little low. Is it a nice unit?

http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/ele/1250685771.html

Answer
As with many things you get what you pay for. There are cheap projectors and good video quality, but not from the same projector. That said, your budget can (probably) cover a budget 720p model, such as the Mitsubishi HD1600 (See 1st link). Note 1080p starts at about $2000 and goes up from there..

For video use in a dark room (recommended) as little as 600 lumens is sufficient ... but these days a 1500 lumen model is fairly average. Any more is for use in ambient light.

800x600 is a bit low resolution. OK for DVD on a smallish screen (say under 70"-80") in a dark room, but not adequate for a 100" screen or Blu-ray use.

See the last 2 links for further info and reviews/recommendations

Note that while a screen can cost $thousands, you can make your own screen for less than $100 (See last link)

Despite what the other respondent says, projectors can give as good a picture as a plasma and for the same price you will get at least 2x the picture size. They are not for everyone ... but my wife and I wouldn't go back to a "small" screen (i.e. 50"-60").

Best projector for gaming?

Matthew C

Im looking at buying a projector for my room mostly for playing games on my 360. But I have never been around a projector and have no knowledge of what to look for. What should I look for in a projector, I want to be able to get surround sound, what port will I need. I got a friend that's trying to help me but the last person he help had him buy something that it wasn't.

What Im looking for is
HD component
Sound hock up source
something that wont overheat to bad

On base we have a TV size restriction, and I have to lock it up because Marines sometimes tactically acquire things from their friends.

Answer
I had an older non-HD projector before this, and worked it to the bone... so when I switched to the HC1600, it was another world. It has to be the best bang-for-your-buck HD projector out there. It is very quiet, and the color is great, the 'low' lamp mode is slightly less bright, but will extend the life of your lamp by 50% or more; I use it in the 'low' mode. I have it connected to my computer and to my XBOX360 and it works beautifully.

I have never used a projector with higher specs, so I can't compare to anything 'better'. The keystone feature for both left-right and up-down movement is nice so that it does not have to be centered to the desired screen placement. Its bigger than an HDTV you would purchase for the same price, and easier to handle!! I would recommend this projector to anyone who wants to have a home theater in their house.

Is the Favi RioHD LED a decent projector?

dtm

Im looking for a projector for under $300 for my basement. It is super dark where i would use it at to only play xbox. I am going to build the screen using blackout cloth for the material and mount it either on the ceiling or set it on a bookcase depending of how far it needs to be for the screen size I will project it at.

Answer
No. You're looking at novelty, portable projectors. Anything under $300 is going to be pretty lousy. Unless you're only using it as a novelty item, you'd be wise to save up until you have around $800-1,000 preferably $1,000. You can probably find a decent cheap projector screen on eBay. Something from Da-Lite or Elite should be good. Just make sure you spend around $250-300.

New home theater projectors are coming out in October, so you should wait either way.

I've provided a link to a projector review site. Also, good projectors require a bulb change after 2,000+ hours. They usually cost around $200.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/home-theater-projector-reviews.htm

Remember, they are pretty loose with the 5/5s on pico and pocket projectors, lol.

Personally, I'd go with the Panasonic 5th generation projector coming out. It will probably be the PT-AE5000U and will probably cost $2,000. It will last you 3+ years instead of 3 months.

By the way, the FAVI RioHD-LED-2 is available for $247 at Amazon.com.

what is a good projector for under 300?

Zac C

what is a good projector for under 300 i want a projector to basicley watch movies and hook my macbook to

Answer
Doesn't exist

"Good" projectors start in the $500 range (although some definitions of good would say you need to spend at least $7-800). Consider that the lamp alone typically costs $300.

See the link for street prices, reviews, recommendations, etc.

You may find a discontinued or sale projector for $400 or so that might be considered good, and used projectors may be bought for $300 (However, most cheaper used projectors probably have limited lifetime left on the lamp).

how are 2012 altima HID xenon lights different from 2010 Lexus es350 hid xenon lights?

Robert

Does the Altima project it differently? I'm thinking Altima's reflected back towards the front of the car while the Lexus just projects forward.
Could I simply buy a 6500K bulb or would I need to replace the system?

Answer
I know what your talking about but this will be difficult to explain.

The Lexus ES350 has a special halo projector. Look at the front of BOTH of this picture:

http://www.autodoodad.com/images/415_LEXUS_ES350_5000K_lights_6500K_fog.jpg

http://www.caranddriver.com/var/ezwebin_site/storage/images/buyers_guide/lexus/es/2007_lexus_es350/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_road_test/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_review/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_review_2007_lexus_es350_headlight_image_001/342761-1-eng-US/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_review_2007_lexus_es350_headlight_image_0011_cd_gallery.jpg

Notice that there is a circle projector that shoots out the xenon lights.

Now compare this with the Nissan Altima headlights...

http://www.blinglightsworld.com/images/2011NISSAN.jpeg

http://www.caranddriver.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/news/car/09q4/2010_nissan_altima_sedan-first_drive_review/gallery/2010_nissan_altima_sedan_headlight_photo_8/2937037-1-eng-US/2010_nissan_altima_sedan_10_2_2_cd_gallery.jpg

You will notice that the halo projectors aren't there in the Altima. (the circle projector lights)

Every car has reflectors which reflect the lights towards the road for better visibility, but the Lexus ES350 (also followed in the Toyota Camry) has halo projectors which provide better visibility during the night. It slightly works with higher Kelvin than a normal headlight bulb (I think they operate at 3K).

So basically the lights of a Lexus (with special halo projectors) shoots out vs the lights of an altima reflects inside the headlights for better visibility and then shoots to the road. Although I don't know how the lights reflect in the lexus but they are much better than standard headlights.

Lexus ES350 uses 6500K Xenon, Nissan Altima uses 43 or 4900K (I think, not sure about that).

Here is a chart of xenon lights temperature:

http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00mMnTgBdPpokA/King-Eagle-HID-Xenon-Bulb-Color-Temperature.jpg

You need to have special halo projectors in order for it to reflect like a true Xenon.

EDIT:

Do you have the Altima?

Here's a good write up by someone I found: use this

FOLLOW-UP COMMENTS:

The Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 Projector is NOT a 3D projector nor would it have satisfactory light output when using the highest picture quality settings even if it were able to produce a 3D image. It is also equipped with an HDMI 1.3a compliant interface - not a fully HDMI 1.4 compliant interface.

With respect to the Sony VPL-HW30ES 3D Home Theater Projector: quoting one of the comments from Projector Centralâs Panasonic AT-AE7000 vs. Sony VPL-HW30ES Shootout: âIn the Cinema modes, the AE7000 shows more contrast, more color saturation, and a deeper black level than the HW30ES. The picture has more snap. Due to the higher contrast, the picture appears to have more depth and incremental sharpness. The AE7000 also has an edge in natural clarity; it looks a bit more analog, or film-like.â These are very important performance characteristics for which a projector must excel in order to qualify as a potential candidate for the title of âbestâ (3D Full HD) home theater projector.

Can a 720p hd ready projector become full hd 1080p?

David

The optoma hd600x is 720p hd ready BUT has a maximum resolution of full hd 1920x1080 1080p it has a hdmi slot so would this upgrade it PLEASE give reasons also if not please explain how you make the native resolution change into maximum resolution.

Answer
Hmm, I thought I already answered this for you. The native resolution on a projector is the best resolution that it can produce. It is called native as it is what all the electronics inside are set for. This can be changed to lower resolutions but not higher. The native resolution is the maxiumum resolution of the projector. If you look at the link below (the one I listed before) and go to the specifications page you can see what I mean.

http://www.optoma.eu/projectordetailshe.aspx?ShowMenu=HE&PTypedb=Home%20Entertainment&PC=HD600X

The site has the native resolution set to 720p however states that the video compatibility is multiple different formats. Notice how it is phrased "video compatibility" this means that the video processor inside of the projector can handle the multiple signals when send to it, but the projector itself can not display them.

Think of this in much that same way as connecting a Blu-ray player to a 720p TV. Sure the Blu-ray can produce 720p and some of the 720p TVs can handle a 1080p signal but the screen doesn't not have enough pixels to display the 1080p imahe regardless of what you do.

This projector is much the same way. It can read the 1080p signal, but the DLP chip in it is maxed out at 720p. any upgrading would require a new video processor, a new DLP chip, and someone one who is extremely experienced in electrical engineering. It would also not be cost effective to do so.

So yes, it can be done. but you would be rebuilding the projector as it cannot display a 1080p signal. For all practical purposes, the Optoma HD600x will never display 1080p.

wats the difference between two types of projector screen material?

biker

am planing to make a fixed frame projector screen by my self, and i want to know if i made a fixed frame projector screen by my self, whether it will be look as good as readymade fixed frame projector screens, heard tat there are two types of projector screen, they are : perforated and non-perforated screens .wat's the difference between these two screens ?..and which one will produce a high video clarity?and which is best to use?

Answer
Both can give a good picture. The choice comes down to whether you want to mount speakers (particularly the center speaker) behind the screen. If you do, you need an acoustically translucent screen.

Performated material is more prone to moire effects than non-perforated, although this is not likely an issue with properly designed cloth.

I made my own fixed screen and decided against the perforated screen material (see 1st link for one source -- and further info) largely because the size screen (110", 16:9) I wanted to build allowed me to mount speakers to the sides and below. I was able to use Blackout Cloth which is a bit less expensive, available locally, and does not attenuate sound.

In terms of how good it will look ... the screen itslef will (assuming you stretch it tight) look essentially identical to a commercial screen ... but the frame build quality will depend on you.

See a picture of results of my efforts at the 2nd link. You judge how well it stacks up against a commercial one ... works for me.

The 3rd link is to the AVS Forum DIY Screen Section -- lots of good info, and a place to get informed advice.

Projector/ Projection Screen Material Question...?

armored.ra

Hello. I was planning on building my own projector screen using blackout cloth- Commonly used for drapery.
I wanted to know which material would be better-They are both the same price:
This: http://www.onlinefabricstore.net/drapery-lining-fabric/drapery-lining-premium/hanes-eclipse-white-fabric-.htm
or
This: http://www.onlinefabricstore.net/drapery-lining-fabric/drapery-lining-premium/hanes-outblack-white-fabric-.htm

The first is composed of cotton and polyester, while the second is just made of cotton.
I don't really know much about fabric, so I would like to know which would be more useful for a projector screen.
Thank you

Answer
You definitely DON'T want the one that is 100% cotton. It's hard to say whether the poly-cotton one is right, either (though I'm guessing it is because it also mentions sound blocking.) The type of BOC you want has a shiny side to it that is what you'll want to project onto. Unless you're sure the poly-cotton one you linked is right, you're kind of taking a chance ordering it online. If you have a fabric store near you, it'd be safer to buy locally so you know exactly what you're getting. There are some online sources, though, that are tried and true. You might consider ordering your BOC here: http://is.gd/2Weh
Another nice thing about that particular source is that the BOC is 110" wide, so you could actually make a 16:9 screen that's over 16 feet wide and not have a seam!

Also, be sure to put a light absorptive black (felt or velvet) border all the way around. This stuff is a really quick, easy way to do that: http://is.gd/2Wed

FYI...

There's a nice DIY BOC screen how-to here: http://www.eldamar.net/house/ht/screenHowTo.html

A better method (in my opinion) for the frame can be seen here: http://archive2.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=366191

Finally, once it's built, if you want to take it to the next level (actually the one beyond that!), you might consider painting the cloth silver. I won't go into that here, but feel free to ask another question about it and I'll respond with details.

What home theater projector should I buy for under $500?

Silence

Ive got some space in a house for the home cinema/gaming area ive always wanted, in america though, where I havent got a clue about anything (I just arrived from england you see) so I was wondering what sort of home projector I can afford for around $400?

Ive seen a few on ebay for $300 that claim to be HD, but I read the specs and its only 640x480 pixels so thats clearly not HD is it.

Price is a key factor for me, I dont have alot, because ive set budgets for a couch/speaker system/etc.. for the cinema room so it really needs to be proper value for money, and no more than $500 but the cheaper the better.

What would you recommend and how should I set it up? I was planning on just getting some dark curtains to block out the sunlight, and fix the projector to the ceiling, then project it onto a large wall with no screen would this be appropiate?

Any other info would be much appreciated thanks for your time...

SHARP XR-10X XR10X DLP MULTIMEDIA PROJECTOR HDTV DVD
what do u guys think of this?
i see it on ebay for $474.95
would u guys recommend this or something under $500?

Answer
www.projectorpeople.com

they will be able to answer any questions you would have. In my opinion I would be hesitant to buy a projector off of ebay, is this a new or used one. Remember most projectors bulbs have a life expectancy of around 2,000 hrs and most bulbs cost $200 to $400. Make sure to look at the Lums is it widescreen or not. Go to proectorpeople and they have a section where you can fill out what you are looking for and recomend projectors two you.

projector for xbox 360?

Luc

I am looking to purchase a projector for my xbox 360 and blu-ray player. I Have a pretty open area, and have a budget of $700. I am not looking for 3D compatible, only good picture quality and a good size projection.
Any suggestions on what to buy?
I was recommended the Optoma HD 66

Answer
well for under 700 $ you are going to have to buy a 720p projector, 1080p cost about 900+ unless you find one used.

if you see 720p advertised, make sure you look for the actual screen resolution, most everyone will advertise 720p - 1080p, but they actually are only 800-600, that is very bad.... dont get anything below 1500 lumens. most bulbs are 4000-6000 hours, thats about 3-4 years for the average gamer. and with a 720p projector, you wont want a screen bigger than 70" or you will see big aliasing problems, but if it doesnt bother you, it can get bigger no problem depending on how bright you get.

I need one under 700 dollers!!

Answer
Good and under $700 is too low if you want new. The least expensive I would recommend would be the Optoma DV-10 MovieTime. Good stats and is often bundled with a sub and screen for $1000. Good luck.

What Is Powerpoint? And is it the same as Keynote?

Valerie

I have to do a PowerPoint in school, and I was wondering what is a PowerPoint? and would that be considered the same thing as keynote?
I tried downloading Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 but it tells me I gotta enter a product key. I am young so I don't have money to buy one, what should i do?

Answer
Hello Friend, PowerPoint is the name of a proprietary commercial presentation program developed by Microsoft. It was officially launched on May 22, 1990, as a part of the Microsoft Office suite, and runs on Microsoft Windows and Apple's Mac OS X operating system.PowerPoint presentations consist of a number of individual pages or "slides". The "slide" analogy is a reference to the slide projector. A better analogy would be the "foils" (or transparencies/plastic sheets) that are shown with an overhead projector, although they are in decline now. Slides may contain text, graphics, sound, movies, and other objects, which may be arranged freely. The presentation can be printed, displayed live on a computer, or navigated through at the command of the presenter. For larger audiences the computer display is often projected using a video projector. Slides can also form the basis of webcasts.
PowerPoint is an alternative to keynote. The basic theme designs offered by Keynote are without competitionâgenius in design and simply gorgeous with 44 standard themes. They are minimalist and cool, so Keynote won the contest both graphically and functionally. Of course, there are several free PowerPoint and Keynote templates for download online, so you wonât run out of choices when it comes to presentation templates.

How bright does my projector need to be?

john smith

I am looking for a new projector for my home to replace the previous one. My last was always hard to see during the day so I would like my next one to be bright enough so I can watch whenever I like including daytime. I know brightness for projectors is measured in lumen so I was just wondering how many would be needed to be able to watch in ambient light conditions.

Answer
This depends on so many factors that I can't see from here: How much ambient light? Where does it come from, relative to the screen location? How large is the screen? How much brightness do YOU find sufficient? How bright was your last projector?
Take the lumen output of your old projector, and multiply by how many times brighter you want your image.

Ambient Lighting for computers?

MrJediJunk

I have recently begun revamping my desk space when I remembered an article on Gizmodo from about a year ago, mentioning a set of USB connected ambient light projectors. I couldn't find the article. Is there anything out there like this that you can suggest?
All I got from that 'Ambient Light Projector' search was actual projectors, which I don't need lol what I am looking for is something simple to give my computer ambient lighting that matches whats onscreen. (Video games, movies, etc)

Answer
>Why don't you Google "ambient light projectors?" I did and it came up with lots of articles. I don't know anything about this topic but if you do some research on the net you probably will find something in all the articles I saw.
