DVD Projector...?

Q. I want to buy a projector, but I don't know what to buy. I need one to be reasonably priced or inexpensive. It just needs to play dvd's well.

Answer
It's not a simple answer.

But before going into more detail consider that projectors use expensive lamps which need to be replaced every 2-3000 hrs (3-4 yrs based on 2-3 hrs/day). Typical replacement costs are $300-$450. So ... projectors are not inexpensive to run.

You also need a screen (or at least a large white wall). However, you can make a screen for under $100 that will work as well as most commercial screens costing under $1000.

On a positive note, projectors are THE BEST WAY to see movies at home and the only way to reasonably approximate a movie theatre.

There are basically three classes of projectors based on resolution and two classes based on use.

The three resolution based classes are 480, 720 and 1080. Prices start at ~$500, ~$1000, and ~$2200, respectively.

The use classes are business and home theatre. business class projectors are less expensive, tend to be pretty bright, have low contrast ratio (CR) and poorer colour accuracy, and typically have poorer video processing than HT projectors -- which are more expensive, often somewhat less bright, but have better video processing, colour accuracy and CR. HT projectors are more suited to movies.

Given that lamps cost about the same for all projectors there is no advantage to buying a cheap projector.

If the above hasn't scared you off, for movies I would suggest you look at 720 class, HT projectors. See the 1st link for a number of recommended models (and a source of lots of info) and the 2 nd link for more info and reviews.

You can often find a good projector as a discontinued model, or refurbished. Used is not necessarily a good choice since the lamp is often nearly gone, and prices new were probably much higher than the equivalent today so owners often overprice.

Hope that helps.

What LED (portable) Projector?

Faddi A.

::::Someones Experience::::

Well Iâve concluded after a lot of search that LED projector should atleast be 60 lumens, 500-1 to 1000-1 contrast and should have USB or SD card slot. LED projectors brightness level is somewhat better than the conventional lamp based projectors so anything in the range of 100 lumens in enough. Also the biggest advantage of 20000 to 30000 life hours :-D I am now a happy owner of 'Samsungs sp-p410m' LED projector which is absolutely brilliant. Couldnât find it online in UK so ordered one from Korea :p yep i liked it that much :p it has SVGA 800 x 600 resolution, brightness 170ANSI, 1000-1 contrast ratio and 80 inch projection which looks stunningly bright, vivid and crisp on my not so white wall. oh and it has digital keystone correction too :-D inputs are VGA, composite & USB. its around 750$ but worth the money as it will last for 10 to 15 years. I recommend following in order, but plz give specs a LONG good look:

1-Samsung sp-p410m
2-Benq gp1
3-Toshiba TDP-F10
5-Samsung sp-400
4-Acer K10
Please give your suggestions or share your experience.

Thanks

Answer
Led projectors are very dim... the dimmest on the market. Only useful in a very dark room, & small screen. Resolution is no better than DVD resolution or worse on most of them, except the most expensive.

Led projectors are nowhere near as bright as the dimmest lamp-based projectors. Typical popular normal projectors boast 1600-4200 lumens with a contrast ratio of 2000:1.

LED projectors are 10-60 lumens... About the brightness of a very dim penlight flashlight, & very poor contrast ratios. Brighter ones are just now coming out, but still not good or bright enough to be practical.

For the price, you can get a 1600-2700 lumen DLP projector with a 2000:1 contast ratio. They're small enough to fit at least 2 in 1 backpack.

I typically fit 2 small DVD players, mixer, a laptop, & 1 of my DLP projectors in a backpack.

LED projectors are a portable novelty or toy for those with a disposable income, & not really very useful or practical yet. Wait a few years for the technology to get better.

From my experience with super bright LEDs, & the specs on them, is they grow dimmer with age long before their "lifetime" is up. How useful will that dim overpriced projector be if it's grown too dim to barely be seen after 3,000-5,000 hours?

Notice the LED display on your alarm clock, DVD player or VCR has grown too dim in just a few years?

how are 2012 altima HID xenon lights different from 2010 Lexus es350 hid xenon lights?

Robert

Does the Altima project it differently? I'm thinking Altima's reflected back towards the front of the car while the Lexus just projects forward.
Could I simply buy a 6500K bulb or would I need to replace the system?

Answer
I know what your talking about but this will be difficult to explain.

The Lexus ES350 has a special halo projector. Look at the front of BOTH of this picture:

http://www.autodoodad.com/images/415_LEXUS_ES350_5000K_lights_6500K_fog.jpg

http://www.caranddriver.com/var/ezwebin_site/storage/images/buyers_guide/lexus/es/2007_lexus_es350/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_road_test/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_review/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_review_2007_lexus_es350_headlight_image_001/342761-1-eng-US/2007_lexus_es350_short_take_review_2007_lexus_es350_headlight_image_0011_cd_gallery.jpg

Notice that there is a circle projector that shoots out the xenon lights.

Now compare this with the Nissan Altima headlights...

http://www.blinglightsworld.com/images/2011NISSAN.jpeg

http://www.caranddriver.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/news/car/09q4/2010_nissan_altima_sedan-first_drive_review/gallery/2010_nissan_altima_sedan_headlight_photo_8/2937037-1-eng-US/2010_nissan_altima_sedan_10_2_2_cd_gallery.jpg

You will notice that the halo projectors aren't there in the Altima. (the circle projector lights)

Every car has reflectors which reflect the lights towards the road for better visibility, but the Lexus ES350 (also followed in the Toyota Camry) has halo projectors which provide better visibility during the night. It slightly works with higher Kelvin than a normal headlight bulb (I think they operate at 3K).

So basically the lights of a Lexus (with special halo projectors) shoots out vs the lights of an altima reflects inside the headlights for better visibility and then shoots to the road. Although I don't know how the lights reflect in the lexus but they are much better than standard headlights.

Lexus ES350 uses 6500K Xenon, Nissan Altima uses 43 or 4900K (I think, not sure about that).

Here is a chart of xenon lights temperature:

http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00mMnTgBdPpokA/King-Eagle-HID-Xenon-Bulb-Color-Temperature.jpg

You need to have special halo projectors in order for it to reflect like a true Xenon.

EDIT:

Do you have the Altima?

Here's a good write up by someone I found: use this

I NEED A GOOD 3D PROJECTOR?

jon

ok ive really wanted a projector to hook my ps3 and wii into, i want to play it in my backyard and have over 100 inches of screen. But the thing is i have no idea what makes a good and reliable projector, the only thing i know about is the lamp life. So can any of you help me out on finding a good 3D projector (YES 3D) like what brand i should go for, or even a specific model that any of you suggest, i didnt want to spend anything over 1500 but i probably will end up doing it if a few hundred extra bucks can get me a good long lasting 3d projector, thanks to all that answer I REALLY NEED HELP WITH THIS

Answer
Forget a 3D projector if you are going to use it in your back yard. All projectors require a dark room to be effective. Beside that you also need a video screen and a sound system. I have not seen any 3D projector being reviewed by Home Theater Magazine. Your budget of $1,500 will not even come close. A decent projector from Panasonic model 4000 is $2,495, which has dropped from $3,495 a couple of years ago when I purchased mine. Even a 3D tv in the 50" is still over your budget of $1,500. The best 3D tv is made by Panasonic model VT25, which is name the best tv for 2010 by Home Theater Magazine. Hope this will help you out.

Projector buying!?

pieman_21

Dose anyone know where i can get a computer projector for under £50.00! Second hand, refurbished i dont mind.

Please help!

Answer
I would try e-bay

Beware of cheap second hand projectors because they may require a new projector globe, these globs are usuraly very expensive. The globe in my projector blew a few months ago a new projector was $1300 and a new bulb was $950 so I was better off to get a new projector. This can easily blow your budget so be very careful

Look at one of these
http://cgi.ebay.com/YOKOGAWA-D-800-COMPUTER-PROJECTOR_W0QQitemZ160073352693QQihZ006QQcategoryZ25321QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I am not shure of the condition of the globe is like, you should check before bidding

http://cgi.ebay.com/PANASONIC-PORTABLE-PROJECTOR-THEATER-LAPTOP-COMPUTER_W0QQitemZ110078291539QQihZ001QQcategoryZ71587QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It needs an RCA input so you would need to get an adaptor for your laptop to convert the VGA plug into an RCA but it is in good working order

Should I buy a TV or a Projector?

Roger That

I am thinking on buying a tv, but I see that it would be more "cool" if I have a Projector.
What should I buy?

Answer
Projectors are expensive to maintain. You have to replace the bulb every so many hours. LCD and DLP projectors typically have a lamp life of 2000-4000 hours. That's the problem with projection television. These projectors use special high-pressure lamps that cost between $200 and $500. Projector owners who primarily watch movies and special events run their projectors an average of about 8 hours a week. For a projector with a 2000-hour lamp, that translates to 4-5 years of use. But if you use a projector as your main TV, logging say 4 hours per day, you'll be looking at lamp replacement in under a year and a half.

Also, a projector has no built-in TV tuner of any kind, but it will display signals from an HDTV tuner, satellite receiver, or cable box.

The best projector performance in a home theater, you should be able to substantially reduce or eliminate light in the room, whether it's daylight or room lights. Rooms with few windows are good candidates. If you plan to use a projector in a room that gets a lot of sunlight, you may need to limit your viewing to after dark.

projector headlights?

turbine

Anybody know where to buy a projector headlights for 2004 wrx?

Answer
check on ebay if those are the kind you want. Personally i wouldn't get them because i have heard that they are better than stock in most cases, but not that great. Join a WRX forum and ask if anyone does something called a retrofit, its where you take a projector (BMW, Mercedes, etc) and build it into your headlights, it makes it look exactly like a high-end car. (altho retrofits can cost upwards of $1,000 too) But check ebay out, they have cheap projectors.

Corvette Zr1 projector?

drake

I know the Zr1 has a projector in the dash that projects the mph and such on the windshield like a heads up display. Does anyone out there have a clue where you can find somthing like this to put in any car?

Answer
You can still get the heads up display parts from GM since the regular C6's have that option too.

If you're trying to retrofit it into a completely different model good luck, it's going to take an insane amount of time, modifications and $$$.

Is 29db loud for a projector mounted above?

Q. I'm going to be getting the epson 705hd soon to turn my spare bedroom into a home theater, yes i know it's only 720p but think of it this way, its better than my dying 24 inch 480i magnavox tube. Now I'm wondering how loud it will be, epson claims it is 29db in Eco mode but is this quiet for a projector? And I'm planning on making my own ceiling mount to match the wood on my doors, molding and wood siding on my house (i think it will look pretty darn good, and i save some money) and i was wondering how thick to make the bottom of the mount where the projector sits, would 2 inches be enough to drown out the noise? Obviously i don't know much about projectors, so I'm asking someone who does.
Thank you! Best answer gets best answer :)
I'm looking for experience, not something found on a website I've never heard of.

Answer
I've been around the 705hd and it runs pretty quiet. My own projector runs a bit louder than this one and I have no problem with the noise it makes. Personally, I think you'll be happy with it. You'll probably have to spend quite a bit more money to get one quieter with the same quality picture.

Despite the 1080p ballyhooing that goes on, you'll be quite happy with 720p as long as you don't go super huge on the screen size... probably 90" or less.

Not quite picturing your ceiling mount but it sounds like you're planning on a shelf-style mount. Be careful because it has to be very open to allow for air flow and cooling. Just as a suggestion, I made my own ceiling mount but I cut a 1/4" sheet of plexiglass, used the 3 mounting receptors on my projector, bought a ball mount on eBay for $15 and assembled it all together to make a very inexpensive hanging ceiling mount that is adjustable.

It looks a lot like this one on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/CEILING-MOUNT-EPSON-PowerLite-Home-Cinema-705HD-/370280442763?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item56366f2b8b

If you do go this route just make sure what you're attaching the mount to is VERY reliable (i.e. not sheetrock) and I make use of the security strap attachment just in case. I've had this mount for 4 years and it's been great.

Epson 3020 Projector screws to mount it?

Mark

I want find what size/thread screws to get for mounting the projector upside down. None came with the projector, nor did a manual. Epson hangs up on me before I ever get to a representative, and fheir site doesn't have it. Any help?

Answer
It may say the screw size right next to the screw holes - it will say something like "M8" or whatever - that is the screw size. If it doesn't, bring the projector to a hardware store that sells metric screws and try a few until you figure it out.

You really should consider buying a ceiling mount for your projector - it will come with the right screws for your projector:

http://www.chiefmfg.com/Products/RSMA168

That mount is designed to fit your projector - it is worth the money:

Projector TV Tunner?

Me

I purchaced a LCD projector it comes with RCA ports ( the yellow, white, red). What to I have to to to hook cable up to it. I have a DVD, VCR and surround sound system hooked up to it now.

Answer
The red and white jacks are for sterao audio. The yellow is for composite video. Unfortunately this is the lowest quality video connection format (in order of improved quality, S-video, Component and DVI/HDMI are better) so you would not be advised to consider feeding the projector more than a 480p signal (i.e. no HDTV).

You don't say what projector it is, but I would assume it projects a 480 line image (vs 540, 720 or 1080), and therefore you will probably not want to watch an image much bigger than 50-60" (anything larger will be pretty blocky).

In terms of what to feed it ... output from a VCR (to view VCR tapes, and if it has a tuner section you could connect cable to the VCR to watch TV), DVD player (to view DVDs) or cable box (to view TV) would all work. Re cable, you need a tuner to "translate" the cable signal to video ... you can't connect direct. Feed the audio signal to your AV receiver not the projector though ... the speakers on projectors are pretty basic.

Hope this helps.

Should I get a TV or a Projector?

Felipe

I have been wondering for a while if I should get a TV or a projector. Budged is not a problem, but my main worries is long-term use.

I have a small TV right now, and I would like to make an upgrade since I'm moving, wall space, and light won't be a problem since the room is facing east. My major worries is the usage; if I buy either or, I'm sure I will be using it at least 5 hours in the weekends and 1 hour in the weekdays. This will include my TV, computer, PS3, and Apple TV. I fear I will have to pay more for the projector in the long-term then a TV.

I would appreciate if you could also recommend me your TV / Projector brand or model.

Thank you for reading.
If you do not know what type of projectors I am talking about, please don't respond.

Answer
Well since budget is not a concern, and light can easily be controlled that does open the option of a projection system. Or to be honest if this is a game system and a video system you may even consider having both, and I will explain why.

First is to choose the right video system for the source material you will be wanting to display, as well as the viewing distances and size screen you will want to have.

Most people are unhappy with viewing games on a projection system, even in a completely dark room, at least compared to a good TV. So you may want to consider having a TV for your gaming system, and then a projector with drop down screen for your home theater experience, this will give you really the best of both worlds.

It is very important to choose the right size screen by the viewing distance. To small a screen and it will not give you an impressive and engaging image, and to big a screen and can show the flaws in the picture quality very fast.

For TV brands, I would highly recommend a high quality plasma TV like that from Pioneer elite (harder to find but still the best plasma Tv's) or the Panasonic Viera models. You will not have any issues with motion artifacts you can get from LCD or LED TV's, and still provide the best overall image.

As far as projection systems, the better quality projectors can get very expensive very fast so you can spend allot of money on a good projection system. Also it is "required" to have a good quality screen which contributes a huge amount to the quality of image you see. Also a good quality screen is not cheap so that must also be consider in the overall budget.

Even know there has been huge advances in projection systems and costs have come to very affordable price ranges, most of the cheaper sub $1500 models are not worth investing in. Plus a good screen is at "least' $1000 and that would be a good used one.

Projectors to look at: Panasonic PT AE-4000 (about $2k) and now the Panasonic PT AE-7000 (about $3500) which is even better. The PT AE-7000 produces a very impressive image, it can display a 2;35 to 1 image without the need of a expensive anamorphic lens, "and" is one of the best 3d projectors on the market today.

If price really is not a concern then these manufactures JVC, Runco, and Barco make some of the best on the market today.

As far as screens I only recommend two manufactures: Stewart film screens (the best) and Dalite.

So you could do a TV for your games and standard TV watching, and then have a drop down screen for you movie theater experience. This will give you the best of both worlds.

I would also highly recommend having all video displays properly calibrated ether by yourself with a good test disc like that from Video Essentials, or better yet have it professionally calibrated by a certified ISF technician. This can make a huge difference in the quality of image you will see, is truly worth the investment.

RealD 3D Home Theater?

TheLukeMar

I have a pretty impressive home theater, (6 Speaker, 4 Tweeter,15" & 2 12" Subwoofers, And A Projector), and I was wondering; Jackass 3D looked great in theaters with RealD and I see that the DVD release of 3D is the retro red-and-blue style 3D. Is there anywhere that sells RealD dvd's? Or would it even be compatible with my projector?

Answer
You will only get 3D for the home market on certain Bluray disks. You would need a 3D capable Bluray player and a 3D capable display. There are some presentation projectors that offer 3D, but the list of actual 3D home theater projector is relatively small and they are very expensive ($5K+) at this time.

If you were to buy a professional projector capable of the actual RealD 3D it would run you over $50K (Cristie, JVC, or maybe Runco). You would also need their proprietary digital cinema player which is also very expensive. The movies too would be expensive because they are meant for the commercial market and aren't readily available to the public.

Answer

what is a snooze interval on an alarm clock?

GIRLY

i have a honeywell atomic alarm clock with a laser projector and temperature reader. when setting the last step for the alarms, there is something called a snooze interval (As i read in the manual). it goes from :01 to :59. what does this mean? please explain in an easy way because im terrible at comprehending.

Answer
Snooze is the button you hit when the alarm goes off. Press the snooze button to have the alarm ring again in a few minutes. If you want the alarm to go off, but want to sleep for a minute and not worry about missing work you use the snooze button.

Set it for 9 minutes and set the alarm 10 minutes back. This way when the alarm sounds at 6:20, you hit the snooze button, alarm goes back off at 6:29 and you're out of bed by 6:30. Or you can keep hitting snooze and stay in bed longer

What is a good 1080p projector for cheap?

Brett W

Could I get a good 1080p projector for like $500? LED would be great. I just don't want it to end up being really crappy. If that price won't work what projector will?

Answer
Projector Central's database lists 6 1080p projectors with street price under $1000 (1st link). The least expensive is $800.

Since image quality is about more than just resolution I would suggest you consider some 720p projectors (2nd link). The Optoma HD66 has had great reviews and costs a bit over $500.

so im thinking of buying this projector http://www.noelleeming.co.nz/tvs-dvds/video-projectors-screens/video-projectors/epson-eh-dm3-home-theatre-projector/prod101515.html. And if i buy it i want to be able to watch normal television on it, but i dont know how to do that? please dont have complicated answers im not very good with technical stuff

Answer
To watch TV on a projector you will need a either a cable box, digital set-top-box or satellite receiver since TVs are only able to produce a picture on it's own screen

Say, for example you have a cable box. Instead of plugging it into the TV the lead will go to the back of the projector whether it is an HDMI lead or composite ( yellow red white )

How to make an amazing presentation with two projectors?

Anonymator

Hey! Movie theaters are an amazing experience. My objective for a high school project is to create a theater experience. Let me be more clear. My plan: Have two long white bed sheets/anything white and long to be used as a screen for a large audience. (It must be with a low budget <$100) I have 2 epson projector, one 13" retina mac book pro.
I want to create the most realistic panoramic experience ever! I want to be able to have videos in video, and have the ability to control each video playing. Or at least something in that base.
The space I have is an average classroom size.
Ready for a curve ball?? This will be a video/skit. Yes! You've read right! There is a live performance, and it will be based on Beowulf. Take it as Beowulf 21st century. I wonder if its possible to connect microphones to the mac?? What do you all think? is it possible?
---------------- Changing the subject just a bit-------
Im planning to use this technique based on your comments on a high school fundraising event called the HUNGER GAMES!! We did it last year, picked up an impressive 1.5k even after giving away an iPad mini. Presentation wise, it needed work.

The ability to go a little above and beyond no matter the work I must put in, Im sure it will be worthwhile. To think this all would be possible thanks to the replies, and comment attributed by the yahoo community is unique.

Please help,

Vladimir O.

p.s. - You want to get these yahoo points? lol take that as the bate.

Answer
"panoramic experience" must mean extended desktop, not two projections of the same thing, right?

A notebook computer has exactly one video out port. One signal comes from that port. Your plan calls for two signals, one with the Finder and the other an extended desktop. That can only be done using two graphics cards. You need a tower, such as a PC tower with two graphics cards or a Mac Pro with two cards.

Yes, many people report getting extended desktop to a pair of displays / projectors by using a USB adapter, but that doesn't have the graphics level for decent video.

How to wire 12v relay to operate projector screen?

best projector and screen on Best Tripod Projector Screen - Handpicked portable tripod projection ...
best projector and screen image

Mark

Hello Everyone:

Short form: Want my projector to control my electric projection screen (issue: On my projector I have a 12v trigger coming out of it, but my electric projector screen does not have a 12v input)

What I do have is the option to add an Up and Down switch, to the screen controller box.

What I was planning on doing is adding a 5 pin 12v relay, to control the up and down switch. I tested the screen and it will work with the down button continuosly pressed as well as the up button continuously pressed.

What I need is just confirmation that I'm wiring it correctly.

So the relay has 5 pins (and this is how I think it could work):

86 - 12v from projector (12v is continously feed when the projector is on)
30 - Ground from projector (for the 12v)
85 - Nothing connected

87 - The Down Switch (from the screen controller)
87a - The Up Switch (From the screen controller)
30 - the ground for the Up and Down Switch (from the screen controller)

From what I gather, When the relay is powered (ie 12v from projector) then the 87 and the 30 will close and in turn cause the screen to go down.

Then when the 12v is cut (ie the projector is turned off) then the 87a and the 30 will close, and in turn cause the screen to go up.

Brand new screen, just don't want to fry it doing something wrong.
Thanks in advance for you help.

Answer
First see what voltage that switch operates at.

By those terminal numbers, it looks like you are talking of a standard automotive accessory relay (which I have used plenty of, so know). Those are rated to 50 some volts. If the up/down switch is at mains voltage, such a relay is unacceptable. Instead, you should get one with mains AC rated contacts, and an appropriate enclosure. If it is low voltage low current, you likely could get a smaller relay than the automotive type.

Second is to see if the screen motor has limit switches, so that such a basic relay scheme can work blindly, otherwise, you need timers or limit switches.

Where can i find a remote control kit to add onto a motorized projector screen?

Thedamneds

I have a motorized projector screen and would like to add an "up down stop" style remote control receiver to it. Where do they sell such parts or kits?

Answer
There are no kits available for that. The screen is triggered by your receiver. The screen should have the instructions on how to connect the cable to trigger it to come down or up. Hope this will help you out.

Benjamin

I'm looking for a projector to put in my room and was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to find one. I need it to be HD compatible and to look good on a 125 inch screen. My biggest problem is finding a decent one that has HD. None of the 200 dollar projector crap. I'm not asking you to do my shopping for me just if you have any ideas where to find one.
Here's the specs I want to have.
1. 2000 lumen
2. 1500.1 contrast
3. under 400 dollars i can budge a little
4. HD-mi or HD av cables compatible
5. 1024 x 768 native( nothing below 800 x 600

Answer
The database at the link can be searched by features. Using your criteria (or as close as I can) your options are as shown at the link. Play with it (e.g. substituting various other resolutions) and see what comes up. Use the reviews to get opinions and be sure to verify from the spec sheet on any model of interest that it accepts HD input.

I assume you know that 800x600 native resolution is not HD. And I'd point out that a 125" screen is probably too big for your room (See 2nd link). Finally, prices shown are street price (not MSRP) but you may be able to do better.

Good luck.

Projector question and speakers?

Mike P

so i want to get a cheap nice projector and maybe some speakers
i need it to work i a room were during day the shades will be closed and at night it will be very dark it dosent have to be too big and it will have to hook up to a dvd/blueray player or my xbox. as far as speakers go i just need some that will work not super fancy and i dont have a lot of $$ to spend this is more of a weekend project just to have around

also can someone tell me some good speakers to hook up to my tv and xbox for better sound there?

links and names are greatly appreciated thanks

Answer
well, as far as projectors go, you arent going to get a good one for under 600$ unless you can find a great deal or sale somewhere. i have only seen a small handfull of 720p projectors under 600 $, and as for the 1080p projectors, they are about 800-1,000 $. if you Really dont care about graphics and picture quality, you can go with a 800-600 projector, but you will see alot of pixels and huge aliasing problems. (woundnt recommend) here is a good buy i found on ebay, this is what you would want for the cheapest price

and as for speakers, i would recommend any 5.1 surround system, and for speakers, you usually get what you pay for. here is a cheap buy also for speakers

I want to use my laptop to broadcast to a projector wirelessly. Do I need to buy a projector specifically made to be wireless or can I use any projector and buy some piece of hardware to connect wirelessly with my computer?

Also, is it possible to connect cable tv to a projector? Can this be done wirelessly?

Answer
Due to bandwidth restrictions, wireless projectors are not yet capable of displaying full motion video without reducing the frame rate, and hence the wireless functionality is not suitable for home cinema.

Most wireless projectors use the WiFi standard. You will require a compatible wireless card in your PC to take advantage of this technology.

Can I enclose a DLP projector with screening to prevent dust buildup?

Q. I read bad reviews on the projector I bought about dust buildup. Would this help?

Answer
You would have to clean the screening on a regular basis. The fan in the projector draws in cooling air, and the screen will clog with it. If you don't keep it clean, the projector will overheat, leading to shutdown or failure. Projectors have a built-in filter, so I don't see any advantage to a screened enclosure.

Answer
I'm not expert, but here are the things I hope to see.

1. The first conscious robot capable of meaningfully interacting with human beings.
2. The Semantic Web
3. Energy off the grid from private solar and fuel cells and in such abundance that we never have to pay for energy again.
4. holographic projectors
5. The perfection of room temperature superconductors so that we can coat the roads with them and fly across the country simply by wearing a special metal belt.
6. The emergence of Nanofactories that will enable us to 'print' objects like toys and food and tools after downloading the program for constructing it from the internet.
7. Automated driving systems, so that we may finally live in a world without car accidents
8. The merging of man and machine via neural implants and artificial hearts
9. An ever present internet in all devices and products.
10. Wars becoming obsolete
11. The possibility that in this coming century we will live forever.
12. The rise of the private space industry and the colonization and teraforming of Mars.
13. The begining of the hydrogen economy.
14. The rise of the comercial robotics industry, in which all menial task jobs will be eliminated freeing people to direct their energies to creative endeavors.
15. The prevalance of free online education programs that are more effective than traditional schooling as a result of the maturation of web 2.0 technologies and our finally learning how to best tap their potentials.

And here are some of the things I dread:

1.Global warming causing massive climate shifts that collapse societies and kill millions.
2. The rise of a massive international police state that is intolerant of dissident voices and undermines the sovereignty of all the democratic nations of the Earth in favor of short term elitist goals
3. An asteroid hitting the Earth or a nearby star going supernova and killing us all
4. Bird Flu
5. The health care crisis
6. Over population issues and the destruction of the world's ecosystems
7.The rise of nano-plagues or masive public manipulation via brain manipulation as a result of these technologies

i have a htc hermes with windows mobile 6 professional with powerpoint, and i dont really enjoy bringing a laptop for a presentation. is there a solution that i can use my pda during the presentation and the display will be in a computer or projector?

Answer
That's an old phone, isn't it? I don't think it was capable of video out and its resolution is SO low it won't look good.

The HTC Touch Pro has video out, but it requires a separate (expensive) cable http://www.htc.com/europe/product/touchpro2/specification.html

And a "review" of its video out capabilities http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=730

There are a few other devices that do this http://www.windowsfordevices.com/news/NS7153872381.html

All that being said, I'm not swearing you can't do it on your phone or any other device that isn't specifically designed for it. I just have not seen any information on how to accomplish it.

How many laptops per person are allowed on airplane?

hari k

I want to know how many laptops are allowed per head when we are travelling from US to India. I have to carry two laptops with me. So can some one tell me, if it is allowed to carry more than one laptop? I doubt if the US customs or India customs will object if I carry two. If it is not allowed, can you suggest me how I can bring those two laptops to India? Thanks in advance.

Answer
as many as you can carry. You have a weight allowance and it is up to you to use it, the airlines don't care what you have as long as it meets the regulations

My last business trip I carried my laptop, an LCD projector, a 2 way radio, and my mobile phone. The only one who cared how much electronic junk I was carrying was security when they wanted to test for bomb residue (Irish Terrorist) and if my laptop works. One of my colleagues regularly travels with at least 2 laptops and sometimes 3 domestically and has never had a problem except for paying for extra baggage (the boss hates when we do that). For my two cents worth Indian customs may have a problem with it BUT most likely they won't .

Have a good trip and safe home.

So Im getting a home theater but i need to know what the best reciever for 5.1 is or if i even need one if I get the bose 321, the projector type, if bose 321 will work with it and my ps3 and the resolutions must be 1080p. Just about everything you need for a home theater but good quality for low price

Answer
first of all don't buy the bose 321 systems, they are worthless for the price they make you pay. I guess I am not clear on if you are talking about paying under $1500 for a tv and another under $1500 for sound or planning on using the 1500 for everything. in your question you are talking mostly about sound stuff but then you throw in the 1080p resolution, which has absolutely nothing to do with your sound system. It sounds like you are using the 1500 for just the sound system so let me help you out with that. there are two ways that you can look at this, and it will depend on how you want your system to work. I don't know if you were looking at the bose systems because of the fact that it only has two speakers which would mean less wires or what. Personally piece together systems are a lot better system when you consider quality and accuracy of the sound.

here is a good example of a sound system that would be awesome for $1500

-$300 yamaha receiver - 5.1
-Klipsch B-2 bookshelf speakers - $300 per pair
-Klipsch surround speakers (i believe they are the S-1 or S-2 model)
-approx, $200 per pair
-Klipsch center channel approx. $200
-sony 12" subwoofer $200 (klipsch sub would be better, but I am trying to stick to your budget since the klipsch sub is $400 for their 10" size)
-100' spool of speaker wire $30 for offbrand, $60 for monster
-fiber optic cable to go from your ps3 to your receiver for sound $20 for off brand, $40 for monster
-subwoofer cable $15 for off brand, $30 for monster

probably just over $1300 after tax

Front projector:
For your picture if you are doing a front projector, go with a DLP projector first of all, much better for your movies, smoother images, better color accuracy. for your price you would have to go with optoma in order to get a 1080p front projector for $1500, and it would have to be on sale, probably.

Rear projection (LCD or DLP Rear projection)
Sony is all I have to say here, just get whatever 1080p size that you can squeeze into your budget

business projector versus a home theater projector? Is there that much of a difference in black levels?

best projector with ambient light on Projector SuperStore learning Center
best projector with ambient light image

bjmarchini

I am budgeting about 500-600 for the project and about 100 for the screen. I can afford a 2000 projector.

A ViewSonic PJ506D SVGA (800x600) 4:3/16:9 2000 lumens business projector is going for 500 with a mail free screen and mount offer.

An InFocus In72 WVGA (852x480) 900 lumens home theater projector is going for about the same refurbished with no extras.

I have read that I really should get a home theater projector rather than a business projector like the 506D, but the lumens scares me.

I am projecting on an 80"screen with blinds and curtains closed. no lights. still some ambient light.

Which will be better. I am going to use it the a really nice DVD player, Wii and Home theater PC. No interest in HD DVDs for atleast 3-4 years when I will prob upgrade this anyway.

Answer
I am confuse with your question. Are you saying you can afford a $2000 projector or can't afford?

Try using a home theater projector if you can. The bussiness projectors are not meant for movies. They are meant for slide shows and a small movie clip.

Now you can get a decent Epson projector that is around $3500 Canadian dollars with a $300 rebate right now. I believe the model is the Epson 1080. Epson makes a decent projector.

http://www.epson.ca/cgi-bin/ceStore/ProductCategory.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=-13702

Ofcourse you can opt to get the cheaper projector. I have personally seen the Epson 1080 and it does a great job on the big screen.

There are also some decent screen around. I think you should provision more for your screen though. Try to think $1000 for a screen. They a decent Draper screen would serve you well.

On the other hand you can also paint the wall matte white and it should work as well. You can try looking for the "goo"-this stuff is supposedly able to serve as a screen.

Why would you want a a projector on your mobile phone?

chiefbeef

TI is demonstrating a prototype of a DLP pico-projector small enough to fit on finger tips.

This prototype is capable of displaying an image about the size of a sheet of paper (8.5x11 inches) in ambient light conditions and What TI DLP is demonstrating is HVGA (320x480) resolution, which is four times the resolutions of a typical mobile phone screen.
