Answer
You should consider getting a projector, then you can project trippiness onto the wall, ceiling, whatever. That's just a lot of fun. Or you could get that colorful light ball thing, it spins and projects different color dots. Any weird lamps.

...and maybe the dangly things people hang in doorways. I think they're called doorway beads.

Does this exist? "Full HD LED 3D Projector"?

tdavoodi

I have been looking forward to purchase a TV, but then I though why not a projector? That way could experience a movie-like feeling every time I watch something, so I started researching projectors. It seems LED is much more efficient than traditional Lamps, also the 3D option sounds fun, and of course if you are getting a projector you might as well go for a full 1080P one. But it seems like there isn't Projector out there that meets all the requirements. The closest Projector I could find is the LGCF3D model which is very expensive and still is not LED which means I would have to replace its expensive Lamp every other year. Now you might think that I am being picky but I think when it comes to projectors one must be very cautious, because beyond capabilities, what matters most, is the contrast ratio and the brightness which have not taken into consideration at all.

Answer
I happened to be looking for the same.

Short answer - if you have the space (for 100" display for example), the budget, the environment which would match the 3D projector, go for it.

I went to LED 3D route with smart TV functions. I suggest you try it in store prior to your decision to buy the projector. Look for passive 3D type.

cheap 3d projector with full 1080p?

Im looking to buy a 3d projector with full 1080p specifications but im looking to spend around £500 or $800.

i have seen the Optoma GT750 Projector 3D 720p at £550.

I watch a lot of movies and have a new xbox 360 slim 250gb currently connected to a 40" LCD 1080p i have noticed that i can use the wall in my room and these projectors and the wall size is roughly
4 Meters = 13.12 Feet wide
2 Meters = 6.56 Feet tall

I would be roof mounting my projector and the main factor is i don't want to downgrade on quality as blue ray technology and 3D movies are becoming very popular

Answer
Optoma HD200X 1080p Full HD Home Cinema Projector is my first DLP Projector and after many weeks deciding whether I should go for a cheaper 720p projector, I finally decided I'd probably regret it if I didn't go for the full 1080p Projector. After reading many reviews I decided on the Optoma HD200x and boy, I can say I was not disappointed.

Baby boy nursery decoration?

Im having a boy and want to do handmade decoration or anything I can do by myself (i dont know if im explaning myself clearly) but If you know any websites that I can get any ideas from or if you have any please let me know.
Thank you!

Answer
oh gosh...the ideas are endless!!! But I would recommend keeping it simple for as the child grows it will be easier to transform. Painted walls with perhaps a few decals. Pychologists recommend bright colors but not overwhelming. A circus theme , sports theme, underwater sea adventure. Maybe even a mural on the wall. (simply rent a projector from the nearest library, find pictures you like in books or posters, and project them onto the walls and then stencil it and paint it in.
Look for "Surprise By Design" with the Michael verdi and Rebecca Cole. They always had wonderful ideas for every area, inside and out. It used to be a design show on TV..and they created things under a specific budget. they were great. But the possibilities are endless!!!! start here...copy and paste it in the brower because it cuts off...

Where can I find an easy mount and easy remove projector mount?

Aaron

I do presentations in different hotels on a weekly basis. It's tough to be space efficient when I have a table with a projector right in the middle. I want to be able to have a classroom style presentation, but there's wasted space because no one can sit in front or behind the projection. I can't do a regular projector mount because it's meant to be permanent, so I would like one that sets up in 30 mins or less and can be taken down without making a mess or leaving holes in the hotel ceiling.

Answer
If we take a leaf out of the film industry's book, the lighting gaffer on documentaries often use telescopic poles to span a room and act as a temporary bridge. The pole presses against the walls at each end. Lights can then be hung off it and there's no floor stands or tripods in the way. There are quite a few caveats though. If the room is very large then the poles will be enormous. This means they're difficult to transport and they flex under load. There's the room construction itself to consider: Are the walls strong enough to stand the pressure, and will it leave marks after removal. Then there's permission and insurance. Finally, cost, which I'll come back to at the end.

Rigging up some sort of tall stand then having an inverted mount on the top is an option. However, do you and your audience want to be looking past the centre pole at each presentation? Probably not.

You could invest in a smaller table or pedestal stand for the projector. That way you aren't losing an entire desk space.

However, the most sensible solution would be an ultra-short throw projector. These have a lens that makes a very large image at a much shorter distance than conventional projectors. The typical throw ratio is around 0.5. Put it another way, for every 1ft of image width the projection distance needs be only 6". Position your work table in front of your screen. Place the projector at 3ft from the screen surface. The image width would be 6ft (72"). That would be bigger than a 96" diagonal 4:3 screen. You'll have gained back all the space lost with the older longer throw projector.

I said I'd come back to costs at the end. Short throw projectors are used a lot in classrooms and meeting rooms now. They start at prices of under $600. For example, the Infocus IN124ST can be bought at BestBuy for $598. There are other makes and models and other suppliers. Compared to complicated solutions with poles and stands the short throw projector works out much cheaper and a lot less hassle.

Can a projector be mounted to the side?

booieh

We have a projector that we would like to use outside by the pool, and the screen would be located directly behind the pool, but due to throw distance we would have to mount the projector off to the left of the screen. It doesn't really matter if part of the image is slightly cut off as long as the entire screen is filled. We also havent built the screen yet, so we can build it to any size. The location that we are considering is approxamitley 22 feet from the center of where the screen will be.
We decided to change the position of the screen. We will angle it so it is in line with the projector. Thanks for the answers.

Answer
What you are proposing is not practical. Most projectors will allow you to be a few degrees off-centre (although some must be mounted in line with the centre of the screen). 22ft off-centre is far too much and you would have a very distorted picture (the part of the screen nearest the projector wouldn't be totally filled and the part that is furthest away would overlap over the edge).

Most projectors only have a small range of places where they can be mounted (limited horizontal and vertical shift). The distance from the screen is also determined by 2 factors: the zoom on the lens and the size of the screen. You really need to ensure the light from the projector is at 90 degrees to the screen, otherwise the picture will be distorted.

Multi Media Projector - Lamp?

morrkope

I am interested purchasing a Multi Media Projector but I am concerned if the lamp dies it is defective, how can we as a consumer protect ourselves?

The suppliers tell me that the lamp warranty is for 90 days or 500 hours.

Please advise.

Thank you

Answer
Lamps on many consumer purchases (e,g, cars, trailers) are rarely covered by the equipment warranty. This is because they can be abused and are considered to be replacable.

That said, a 90 day warranty on a projector lamp is standard. Some sellers also offer an extended lamp warranty for a reasonable amount. You may wish to consider one if you are worried.

Lamps will usually last 2-4000 hrs if treated correctly, but there are some precautions you should be aware of including:

- Dont' touch a lamp with bare fingers during installation (the oil can cause them to burn out)

- Make sure the projector is mounted so that heat can dissipate. This includes cleaning filters as recommended by the manufacturer.

- Make sure you avoid fast on/off cycles. It's important to leave a lamp on for at least several minutes before turning off, and always make sure the lamp cools down using the fan before unplugging the projector. Many projectors automate this process.

- Use an uninteruptible power supply (UPS) to ensure that if there is a power cut the lamp isn't suddenly switched off without a chance to cool. It has been reported that lamp life can be cut by as much as 20% from even one improper power down.

Other than that if a lamp doesn't fail soon after installation (covered by the 90 day warranty) it should be good for years of use at 2-3 hrs/day.

How Do I load an 8mm film projector?

Q. I have a Sears Du-All 8mm/super 8 film projector. I am, however, 26 and have no idea how to load the film. I've tried every way i can think of to load it. HELP!! And please, use the most basic terms you can - i know nothing about these things.

Answer
Not easy to explain in writing. Most of these projectors have a diagram on the inside case that shows how to thread the film. You should have an empty reel in the left holder and a full reel on the right holder. Then you thread the film from right to left, hooking it into the left film holder. As I said, there should be a diagram showing the path of the film through the machine. Good luck.

What would be a good 8mm projector to buy?

devzin98

I'm looking to transfer 8mm reels to DVD, and need to buy a projector to do it. I've been on eBay, but there are some that cost $20, and others that are $150.....but I don't understand what the difference is. Please let me know what I should be looking for in the projector.

Answer
I have a collection of old movie cameras, and I actually shoot in 8mm as a hobby.

One thing you need to know, is your film regular 8mm ("double 8") or is it Super-8? The sprockets are different and you can't put Super-8 in a regular 8mm projector or vice-versa. Some projectors can use both kinds of film, but you have to be sure it specifcally says that you can use both.

For a regular 8mm movie film, I would recommend a Kodak 500 C3 projector. I have two of them. They're very simple and easy to load and they give a nice image. Also, they use a metal belt (actually a sort of spring) that runs the reels with the motor, so you don't have to worry about a rubber belt wearing out or breaking. The only little catch is that they do seem to have a problem with the light switch being a little loose, so you might have to play around with the switch a little bit to make the lamp stay on. But otherwise, they seem to be very simple, rugged projectors. I got mine on eBay for about $25, and I haven't had any problems with it.

I don't know about Super-8, since I've never used it. But when you do look for projectors, make sure the description is good and detailed. Be sure they at least plugged in the projector and powered it up...the lamp should work and the motor should run. Look at their pictues and see if you notice any obvious problems like a worn out or snapped belt. If the lamp bulb is burned out, that's not really a big problem because you can actually still get bulbs. But if the belt is broken, that will be really hard to find.

Don't even bother if the seller says something like "I don't know anything about film projectors" or "I don't know if it works." Be sure that they at least plugged in the projector, and the lamp lights and the motor runs.

Oh, one other thing...stay away from "auto load" projectors...any projector that automatically feeds the film in. Those are horrible. They will eat up and shred your film! I almost lost one of my rolls of fim because it jammed in the auto loader. Luckily, it was just the leader that got shreded. The simpler the projector, the better. Also, try to look for major companies that manufactored well known movie cameras and projectors. Kodak, Keystone, and Bell and Howell are good brands. Also, definitely Bolex. They made awesome movie cameras. I have a Bolex K2 movie camera and it is probably my favorite one now. But Bolex movie projectors are probably going to be expensive.

How can I watch a 3d film on my MacBook and projector.?

Francisco

Hi. I'm trying to watch a 3d film on my MacBook. I have a benq mx514 projector that i use to watch films from the computer and it is capable of 3d projection. I've been reading lots of things and can't make it work. Any suggestions?

Answer
To be able to watch in 3D you will need to have the following. 3D HDTV or 3D projector, 3D blu ray disc player or games console, 3D blu ray disc movie or 3D video game and 3D glasses. Missing one item and you don't get 3D. Hope this will help you out.

Can I watch 3d films on my laptop?

I have no

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5742.
I was messing about with it, and I found a setting for my Graphics card, and it had a 3D button.
Lets you change the quality + stuff of 3D.
The Graphics Card is an Intel GMA X4500 3D Graphics.
Thanks.

Answer
the graphics card 3D settings are for rendering 3D objects in games, not for actually seeing in 3D

as of yet, i have not heard of a 3D projector in a laptop, so no, unless you plugged it into a 3D TV, thats different

Portable speakers for Projector ?

Dondrea L

I'm buying a projector (ViewSonic PJD5123) for my husbands birthday. I would like to find some compatible speakers that would work with it. I need portable ones that we could use outside. Mostly for UFC fights in the backyard or movies. Would also take them camping at the lake. Affordable and they don't have to be top of the line, but decent. I'm clueless about electronics. Please help! Thanks!!

Answer
Keep in mind that a projector is designed to project a big picture and has no tv tuner for you to watch tv program. You can connect a DVD or blu ray disc player or a computer to it. It also does not support any audio. You are going to need a sound system for the sound. You can get a sound bar and connect your computer, dvd or blu ray disc player to it for the sound. Hope this will help you out.

Good home theater projector.?

Ryan

My Optoma DLP EZ735 just crapped out (color wheel). I loved it. I was able to return it and now have $1300 looking for the next awesome home projector. The Optoma was 720p with HDMI inputs.

Requirements
At least as good as the Optoma 735
720p (Would love 1080p)
HDMI or DVI inputs
HDCP compliant
I use it mainly for iTunes downloads, DVDs, and XBox
I could spend 3-400 more than the $1300.
OH ... and I want to be able to get a 5 year extended full warranty

Answer
See the recommended 720p models at the bottom of the page at the link. Reviews of all these (and more) projectors are also on this site. For more money you might want to stretch to the Sanyo Z700. The 2nd link is to another good review site.

I don't know about a 5 year warranty ... 3 is more normal. Besides technology changes so quickly you will probably trade the projector for a new model in 3-4 years maximum.

Every projector is different, so read specs and reviews carefully to find one that fits your needs best.

getting my laptop warranty at costco?

Q. For COMPUTERS, TELEVISIONS and PROJECTORS, Costco extends the MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY to two years from date of purchase.

Answer
Batteries are only warrantied for 1 year and is not covered by any warranty extensions. This is true of ALL manufacturers -- because batteries are just like any batteries -- they're probably gonna die in about a year. You'll have to buy a new one.

Looking for a digital projector for home and outdoor movies.?

axenboots

I would like to purchase a digital projector for a home theater system. In the summer time, use it to project on the side of the house, for night time entertainment. I intend to use a flush-mount retractible screen for inside the house. I have a budget of about $1100.

Answer
OK, so you need a portable (or at least one that will be shelf or coffee table mounted when used indoors). That implies lens shift capability. Outside you would not get the benefit of controlled light, so something brighter than average (ca 1000 lumens) would be advisable (although not essential).

Projectors, basically, use two dissimilar technologies: LCD and DLP (See last link for some info on advanatages and disadvantages). I encourage you to do further reading, but from your perspective the main difference is that LCD based models TEND to offer wider zoom lenses and capable lens shift (vertical and horizontal), versus no (or limited) lens shift on DLP models. This means that many, otherwise desirable, DLP models won't work for you because they have to be ceiling mounted ($$ for long cables and ceiling mount and inconvenient to move outdoors).

You could go with a business projector ... there are many in the price range, and they tend to be fairly bright, but you would then compromise performance as a home theatre projector (lower contrast ratio, lower resolution).

While fairly capable projectors can be purchased for $1000 these days your choice (and potential picture quality) improves at a bit higher price point. You could reconsider whether you need a screen, and potentially free up the money to put into a bit better projector.

Personally, I built a home theatre fully intending to buy a Carada screen (ca $1000), but found the DIY screen I built for about $50 (following suggestions from AVS Forum (see 2nd link for an example)) gave me such a good picture I don't know if I'll ever buy a commercial screen.

The first link below summarizes info on "recommended" projectors for home theatres (it is kept updated as technology changes) organized by resolution. Links to actual reviews are provided for each.

A number of these projectors would be ideal for you (e,g, the Mitsubishi 1000, Optoma HD72) EXCEPT that they need to be ceiling mounted.

In the interest of providing some specific recommendations, two of the best (in many people's opinion) LCD projectors are the recently superceded Panasonic PT-AE900U and Sanyo PLV-Z4. Both these projectors are models of flexibility, with wide range zoom lenses and excellent lens shift range ... necessary for your needs. And, best of all ... becuase they are being replaced with new, even better models, are available right now new for close to your price range (See 3rd and 4th links) or should be widely available used for under $1000.

That said, there are numerous other models that could work for you, so I suggest doing some reading to help define the factors that are important to you. Only then will you be prepared to make an informed choice.

Good Luck. Hope this helps.

Best outdoor projector for 10x9 screen?

Garrett E

Answer
My preference would be the Optoma HD20 DLP Projector but this does retail for around the $800 mark. Check some of the well known and trusted brands that are available on Amazon. There's a LOT of options out there... Think about: what time of day will you be projecting? What sound quality do you want? Do you want 3D? Read some of the reviews on Amazon as people talk about setting up their projector with outdoor screens all the time and they'll give you the pros and cons.
Hope that helps...

Do you think a projector would be the best choice for me?

Emily P

My father is a super movie fan, and his birthday is coming up next month. I was going to buy a wide-screen HDTV for his originally, but some of my friends suggested me to buy a projector instead. They said you'll get better view for a movie and it's not too much expensive that a HDTV. I've got a new PC at home which I think it can be hooked up with the projector.

Do you think it better to buy a projector for him? Thank you.

Answer
Buying a projector isn't a bad idea at all,but if you are concerned about picture quality you'd better get a high resolution one which can be somewhat expensive. These projectors can provide a large size image if that's one of your interests but they
should always be viewed in the dark for better quality.IF you have
too much daylight in the room and yet cannot help it by using
curtains or anything like it , maybe buying one can be frustating
since you don't get the most out of it.The projector have a bulb
with a limited life time which can actually last a few years depending on how much you use it.Of course it can be replaced but you should know it isn't cheap like most replaceable parts.IF size matters,at about 70 inches and you happen to buy a hdtv of such size ,this one's going to be a rear projection hdtv which also uses a bulb.So if it's a large size picture you're looking for without the expense you have to take into account that both tecnologies in a size like this, need a dark environtment to get the most out of it.If you choose to spend a lot of money in a hdtv of such size you should know that hdtv's require a hd signal if you wanna get the best picture. They say a hdtv is as weak as is weakest link. This means that if you opt to buy a hdtv for the high quality every video source must be hd too.Otherwise,THE PICTURE QUALITY IS CRAPPY.Meaning that your computer, if it is the case, must have a hd video output to enjoy the maximum quality. HDTV is not only digital but also of higher quality and according to researches it seems to be that is gonna be the standard for the near future due to its excellent quality not only of video but sound too, even if prices remain high for major brands or such technology is not affordable for most people.IF you want to make the old man happy think that the projector is simpler in operation and more accesible to older people.HD is simple once you get used to it but it takes to invest more money in accesories and services such as,HD programming,HD dvd player,hd video cables which are necessary to get a high quality picture from a hdtv.In brief, the projector is a no brainer for the budget and the
quality is good.IF you're looking for something more sophisticated
and compatible with the near future technology you'll have to go with a hdtv.Anyway this a topic to which i don't have all the info
and your specific needs and specifications on the conditions you have in the room and the picture size you need. For that reason I'd
like you to consider the aforementioned statements and knowing what you know now ,find common sense based on all
this and see how high monetarily speaking you want to go for your specific need. Before i go i'd like to say that both technologies are great for as long as you use any of them for a
particular case depending on bugdet, use, quality, compatibility and
ease of use.Anyway if you need more info you can go to any of the stores that specializes in HDTV and find out what the best
might be for you.thanks.CLAUDIO ORTEGA
