projector for the cheap?

joshua d

I want a good projector for 500 and under? hd if possible, 30" and up

Answer
It's definitely doable for that price range. Check out the top10reviews or CNET reviews and you should be able to price compare based on what type of specs you are looking for.

Projector's tend to show video imperfections alot easier than TV's if you go for a cheaper one, so its good to invest in something a little bit better quality than the cheapest ones you find. Just my opinion.

Hope it helps.

Help me find a Home Theater Projector for me!!???

Lostman24

I want to watch my HDTV and play DVDs, Xbox 360, Wii, and normal TV on the projector, as well as hook up surround sound. I have no idea what all this 480i,1080p blah blah mess is so can someone tell me if that all really matters and which projector is right for me? I was looking at this Dell:

http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater-projectors/dell-2400mp-projector/4505-7858_7-31878925.html?tag=prod.txt.5

But I was not sure if it was for Home theater or for presentations...I also looked at the Infocus IN models like the IN1, IN74, ETC...
http://www.infocus.com/Segments/Entertainment/Home%20Entertainment.aspx

I want to spend under $1,000...please help!

Answer
Forget the Dell.

Buying a projector is at least as complicated as buying and HDTV, so before you buy do some reading. I've provided links to two good review sites. They tend to complement each other in terms of observations/focus so it's worth looking at both. The first link also includes a link to a "projector caclulator" that allows you to determine the range of mounting distances to get certain screen sizes (and acceptable brightness) from a particular projector... very useful.

You want to use a projector for all your A/V needs, so consider a couple few issues.

- projectors use expensive lamps ($300-$500/each) that need to be replaced every 2-4000 hr (depending on projector and how used)
- you need a dim/dark room to get the best picture (projectors, unless they are very bright, get washed out by bright lights/windows).
- you need a screen. While this can be as simple as a white wall, for best results you need a dedicated screen. This can be a DIY painted screen (~$100) or as complex as a multi-thousand dollar motorized sreen/masking system.
- Projectors fall into basically two classes (based on use) and three categories (based on resolution):

By Use:
1) Business -- tend to be portable, bright, low contrast, may be 4:3 aspect ratio, poorer video processing, may have fan noise, and
2) home theatre projectors -- tend to be less portable, lower brightness, high contrast, Usually 16:9 aspect, good video processing, quieter

By resolution:
1) 480p (~$500) - SDTV/DVD resolution, best used on screens up to 80-90" maximum,
2) 720p (~$900 and up) - HDTV level resolution, can look good on 100"+ screens
3) 1080p (~$2000 and up) - Analogous to 1080p HDTV. Best picture.

On the basis of your intended use and budget, I'd suggest focussing on 720p HT projectors.

See the listing for "highly rated" HT projectors at the third link ... they are organized by resolution, so you should come down to the 720p (1280x768 or 1280x720) models.

I hope this helps.

Affordable multimedia projector? (<$500)?

surveyslop

So I want to watch movies on a large screen without spending too much.

I already own two 22" monitors, but it's just not quite big enough.

Also, I will be ONLY watching movies on this.

Answer
Under 500, won't get you much PJ at that price for sure. I would suggest you look at the Mitsubishi HC1500 or 1600. These are 720p projectors, that offer a great picture, for what they go for. Consider that you get what you pay for when buying any projector. I suggest you check out TigerDirect or Amazon for HT projectors as you may be able to find an Optoma of Infocus model at a good price as well.

best affordable projector for small room - see details?

I need to purchase a projector to mount on my ceiling to project HDTV, Xbox, Blu-ray, Computer, etc. It will only be projecting about a 60" diagonal, so not to far away. Can someone help me find an affordable projector (less than $500) or at least tell me what resolution and type would suit my needs. I do not need perfect high definition, but I still want it to look high-def when projecting blu-ray, xbox, and HDTV.

Thanks!

Answer
For something less than $500 you can still get a high quality projector, their pretty cheap now thanks to plasma, LCD and LED TV's. You should defiantly take a look on eBay or online somewhere.

What home theater projector should I buy for under $500?

Silence

Ive got some space in a house for the home cinema/gaming area ive always wanted, in america though, where I havent got a clue about anything (I just arrived from england you see) so I was wondering what sort of home projector I can afford for around $400?

Ive seen a few on ebay for $300 that claim to be HD, but I read the specs and its only 640x480 pixels so thats clearly not HD is it.

Price is a key factor for me, I dont have alot, because ive set budgets for a couch/speaker system/etc.. for the cinema room so it really needs to be proper value for money, and no more than $500 but the cheaper the better.

What would you recommend and how should I set it up? I was planning on just getting some dark curtains to block out the sunlight, and fix the projector to the ceiling, then project it onto a large wall with no screen would this be appropiate?

Any other info would be much appreciated thanks for your time...

Answer
Unfortunately in order to acquire an true HD 1080i DLP projector, there are only two selections available: the Optoma HD20 or the Infocus X-10. Both sell for around $1,000 - $1200. We have not found any HD projector in your price range of $400.

Good luck!

I Need a CHEAP Projector that is around 100-300 dollars. I Am 13 and i plan on playing a ps3 on it in my room. So any Suggetions thta would look GOOD on a ps3 would be nice!!!
it doenst nedd a dvd player either

Answer
While you may find a projector on eBay or elsewhere close to your price range (and a refurbished InFocus 4805, as suggested, would be a good choice if you can actually find one), you should be aware of a few things first.

The lamp in a projector needs to be replaced every 2-3000 hrs, so if you use for video games 3-4 hrs/day, that means you will have to replace it in as little as 18 months. And it could be sooner if you are not careful to cool down the lamp prpoerly after each use, avoid quick on-off cycles and protect against power cuts (which can shorten lamp life by ~20%).

The reason I make a big deal out of this is that a new lamp costs $300-$450 (depending on projector model), and usually only has a 90 day warranty.

Furthermore, to get a good picture from a projector rated under about 1500 lumens the room will have to be dark (or at least quite dim), and you need to project onto a screen ($200 or more to buy, $50 or so to make ... if you are handy) or onto a blank white (or light grey) wall.

Finally, make sure any model you find can be table mounted at a distance your room will accommodate for a reasonable picture size (this is not standardized).

So, a projector is a great idea, but go into the purchase planning to spend at least $250-$300 for the projector, more for a screen, and $3-$400 for a lamp in a year or so (or recognize the projector is a throw-away when the lamp goes. If you are OK with that ... happy gaming.

Name of cheap projector?

Red R

I think it may have been a few years back but not too far back. I saw commercials and ads for a cheap projector that could be used almost anywhere. It had low resolution/colors etc but it did the job. I think it sold for less than $100. It was advertised as turning your wall into a tv screen up to 60". I'm trying to find a cheap projector and was wondering if anyone might remember what I'm talking about, and know where to get it if it is still made anymore.
I've been trying ebay and all kinds of other sites including actual brick and mortar stores but I cant seem to find what I am looking for. All that I can find are expensive projectors and I just need something simple for my kids to play games on outside during family BBQs. Any ideas or hints?

Answer
Sorry to burst your bubble here, but there is no projector made for $100 that is bright enough to compete with daylight or even dusk lighting conditions outside and still make a 60" screen. You need about 2000~3000 ANSI Lumens to compete with dusk conditions. The $100 Dollar projectors are at best 40~60 ANSI Lumens. That difference is like turning up to a drag race on roller skates.

You won't find these cheap projectors in bricks and mortar stores because one look at a demo will convince you that the advertising was B.S. and you'll walk out with your money still in your pocket. Store owners know better than to show shoddy goods. These things are sold online because that's the only way to con people in to buying them.

If you have the money to lose, then there's plenty of companies that will relieve you of $60~$70 + Tax & Shipping. http://www.amazon.com/PRO-Projector-Cinema-Theater-Laptop/dp/B00EY24CCC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399996390&sr=8-1&keywords=projector

If you want to stand any chance of producing a reasonable image then spend $350+ on something like this Viewsonic http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-PJD5134-Projector-Lumens-Blu-Ray/dp/B00A9S3OOC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1399996449&sr=8-2&keywords=projector

Office Projector?

im looking for a office projector i have no idea what i should go with can someone help me out

Answer
Pretty much any of the projectors will work well. You don't need to spend more than $1000 US to get a decent one. The more you spend, the brighter the projector will be. If you can spring for a XGA resolution projector, the picture will look better than a SVGA resolution one.

I have had good reliability with the Sharp projectors:

Where can I get good quality Projector/Halo headlights for my 07 Honda Accord?

sowthwestc

I want to get Projector/halo and possibly HID headlights for my 2007 accord. I have heard that ones on ebay arn't the best quality, on both looks, and light output. Does anyone know where I can get quality projector/halo/HID headlights?

Thanks!

Here is one I was looking at on ebay -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching&viewitem=&item=160199245171&_trksid=p3907.m32
Anyone have any experience with those?

Answer
You dont really want to buy any pre-fabricated projectors. They are all pretty crappy. Your best bet is to spend to extra money and get a retrofit done. This will be a lot more expensive, but the output is perfect and the materials they use are high quality OEM parts from other honda/acura vehicles.
The best place I have found is http://www.customlightz.com . I know many people who have purchased retrofits through this company, and have yet to hear about a single problem.

Projector : getting the most out of my projector?

chris m

I just bought an Optoma ezpro 739 projector at $700 i thought it was a steal. I am running my movies and games through Svideo out of my laptop with an ATI card. What are the settings I should adjust to get the best picture quality both on my laptop and projector . Also where could I find a good quality screen? What should I look for in a projector screen?
Can I use a certain type of white paint on the wall to simulate a screen??? thanks.

Answer
Hi, tigger (above) has given you the settings.Projector screens are usually available as a fixed screen on a wall or a motorized screen which retracts into a housing near the ceiling. Or you could paint one on a wall with flat white paint but won't give you the results of a proper screen.
If you decide to buy a proper screen look for a uniform flat non reflective white area with a 1 to 2 inch flat black border all around. Make sure you get a 16 : 9 screen so you can view widescreen programs.

Hope you find a good one.
Cheers.

projector help remote audio video connections?

slycooper2

i have a projector and i need some way to put a plate up beside it that has audio and video connections that run to another plate beside my audio and video equipment and dj equipment any ideas where i can get those items????

and i need a universal rf remote for 5-10 devices any idea where i can get that/
thanks but i have hdmi, vga, dvi, component, coaxial and composite video that needs ran
it is not going to be used for djing i just use my dj equipment for my sound system,,,,,,,,,, the projector is mounted on the ceiling in my theater but i need a good clean hidden way of running wires

Answer
You only need to run video to the projector not audio. Send audio to your DJ sound system - send composite video to the projector with any standard RCA to RCA type video cable:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10236&cs_id=1023601&p_id=621&seq=1&format=2

Try to avoid controlling everything with a remote (except the projector). It is best to have the equipment near you if possible in a DJ setup.

Projector video connection help?

Tamatea F

At the office we have an Infocus LP540. I'm planning on mounting the projector from a ceiling post and leaving it there for my training room. Well our company just moved and we spent a lot of money. So I'm a little scared to buy an infocus vga amplifier kit for $250 cause I don't want to spend more money. So I want to be able to connect my projector and save money doing it. Can anyone help me connect my projector to the computer. Its about 30ft distance??

Answer
The VGA signal from the computer should reach 30 feet to the projector no problem. Just get a cable that is long enough. I often get 50 foot cables when I install a projector in a ceiling in a conference room. I have never had a problem even with a 50 foot cable.

You do not need an amplifier kit.

Why some projectors are way bigger and heavier than others ?

Anton

I recently sold my Acer H9500BD , which was 25 pounds , and then bought another Acer H6510BD , which was only 4.8 pounds. The 1st projector was also 3 times bigger than the other.
The new projector is smaller , lighter and superior in term of picture quality and brightness. The zoom/throw distance was also better. SO my question is , why such big, bulky unit , also comparable in size with high end brands such Sony, JVC, Epson etc are so expensive and bulky , and at the same time they are not offering any exceptional quality over the cheap 1080p projector , such my $500 Acer H6510BD ?
What is inside the case/hardware/ that cost and weight so much ?
Thanks !

Answer
Granted projectors have gotten lighter and significantly less expensive to get the same quality images than its older, larger, and heavier predecessors were getting years ago. They keep getting smaller, lighter and less expensive, BUT there are many cheap low priced projectors on the market than ever.

Why are some projectors lighter than others ? A big factor is how much light output it needs to produce. The more light output for that like at concerts are as big as a small car, movie theater projectors can also be quite large. Typically these larger projectors also need high resolution optics and processors as a larger image needs to provide very high resolution to get a quality image.

But when your comparing consumer projectors, sure older designed were bigger, heavier, for pretty much the same reasons. There are however many cheap quality projectors on the market, and many of these micro projectors honestly provide a very poor image, they don't have the light output, optics, and video processing to provide a good image.

So you will certainly want to be careful for anyone wanting to buy a projector, if image quality is important to you as it should.

Projector central is a good source for reading reviews on home theater projectors.

which is the best projector brand name?

jamal

i look for best brand name manufacturer for projector quality

Answer
No one name ... but some top end brands include Christie, Sim2 and Runco. For mere mortals JVC & Epson are top notch, but Optoma, Sony, In Focus, Sanyo, Mitsubishi, Panasonic and BenQ are all "name brand". See the link for a more or less complete list (the same site has reviews and recommendations for almost any need).

That all said, you really need to define your needs since projectors cover a wide range and some models will be better choices than others no matter what the brand.

Can you program a Dish Network remote to a Dell 3200mp projector?

w_vorwald

Answer
Not much detail here!

A generic answer: You may or may not find a master code for the Dell, but if the Dish remote has a learning function you can teach it the necessary commands for a projector. Generally you only need a few commands. If you want to get better results consider something like a Harmony 550 remote ... that can often be found for under $100 and can be programmed to control (almost) anything.

Can I do PowerPoint presentations and link up to a projector on an iPad?

Kip

Thinking of buying one for business presentations but not sure of the capabilities. Postives and negatives...???

Answer
To connect your iPad with a big sreen to a TV, monitor, projector, or LCD display that uses a VGA connector, you can use an Apple iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC552ZM/A#overview

If you want to play PowerPoint presentations on iPad, it is recommended to convert your presentations to MP4 using a converter like Leawo PowerPoint to Video Pro (http://www.leawo.com/powerpoint-video-converter/ ) so that all originals like animations, transitions, video clips, sounds and fonts will be well preserved.

Hey can you connect your ipad to a projector? ?

Q. Can u connect an ipad to a projector like a macbook using the same conection as a macbook ?

Answer
it comes with the same little display port that you need to buy an adaptor for, like a macbook. if the projector has vga input, you'll have to get a vga adaptor. if it has hdmi input, you'll need the hdmi adaptor, etc.

Should I get Keynote?

Anonymous

I currently own an iPad and a Mac. I'm contemplating buying Keynote for both. I'm certain that switching presentations between my iPad and Mac will be flawless and easy but my university, which I will need to make power points for, only has PCs hooked up to projectors. My question is, if I export a Keynote presentation (or whatever it's called) to powerpoint, can I expect formatting to be consistent? Is this feasible? I know from past experiences with OpenOffice that exporting to PowerPoint was always a pain in the ass cause the formatting was always messed up and the transitions didn't cross over. Should I expect the same from Keynote cause if that's the case, I won't get it. I'm wondering if there's a read-only format I can export to that will work just as fine on a PC as a Mac. Is there one? The most thoughtful answer (which answers BOTH of my questions) gets 10 pts.

Answer
You can expect formatting issues immediately. Only Microsoft products come with the default fonts used in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, so all other applications have to substitute fonts. Therefore, things will always look different unless you're careful to specify cross-platform fonts.

The open file format for presentations was set by an international standards body more than 8 years ago, but each program offers various levels of support. Microsoft fully supports open formats. Keynote can open files saved in standard format but can not save in standard format.

Just the same, you'll need Keynote for your iPad because there's no Microsoft PowerPoint for iPad (Sept 2011). So you're kinda stuck with Keynote as the intermediary. Make your presentations in Keynote so they play on your Mac and iPad. Export them to PowerPoint 97 format from Keynote for the rest of the world. To take advantage of PowerPoint's features, these exported files can be saved in PowerPoint format in PowerPoint before sharing with everyone.

Answer
Sony's newest 1080p projector, the Bravia VPL-HW10, is now available, and it is easily the finest projector from Sony we've yet seen. The HW10 is brighter than previous models by a decent margin, has excellent contrast, open midtones, a sharp picture, and good placement flexibility. The Sony VPL-HW10 delivers a vibrant, dynamic picture, and it is a very competitive projector among the new 1080p resolution products coming to market this fall.

What LED (portable) Projector?

Faddi A.

::::Someones Experience::::

Well Iâve concluded after a lot of search that LED projector should atleast be 60 lumens, 500-1 to 1000-1 contrast and should have USB or SD card slot. LED projectors brightness level is somewhat better than the conventional lamp based projectors so anything in the range of 100 lumens in enough. Also the biggest advantage of 20000 to 30000 life hours :-D I am now a happy owner of 'Samsungs sp-p410m' LED projector which is absolutely brilliant. Couldnât find it online in UK so ordered one from Korea :p yep i liked it that much :p it has SVGA 800 x 600 resolution, brightness 170ANSI, 1000-1 contrast ratio and 80 inch projection which looks stunningly bright, vivid and crisp on my not so white wall. oh and it has digital keystone correction too :-D inputs are VGA, composite & USB. its around 750$ but worth the money as it will last for 10 to 15 years. I recommend following in order, but plz give specs a LONG good look:

1-Samsung sp-p410m
2-Benq gp1
3-Toshiba TDP-F10
5-Samsung sp-400
4-Acer K10
Please give your suggestions or share your experience.

Thanks

Answer
Led projectors are very dim... the dimmest on the market. Only useful in a very dark room, & small screen. Resolution is no better than DVD resolution or worse on most of them, except the most expensive.

Led projectors are nowhere near as bright as the dimmest lamp-based projectors. Typical popular normal projectors boast 1600-4200 lumens with a contrast ratio of 2000:1.

LED projectors are 10-60 lumens... About the brightness of a very dim penlight flashlight, & very poor contrast ratios. Brighter ones are just now coming out, but still not good or bright enough to be practical.

For the price, you can get a 1600-2700 lumen DLP projector with a 2000:1 contast ratio. They're small enough to fit at least 2 in 1 backpack.

I typically fit 2 small DVD players, mixer, a laptop, & 1 of my DLP projectors in a backpack.

LED projectors are a portable novelty or toy for those with a disposable income, & not really very useful or practical yet. Wait a few years for the technology to get better.

From my experience with super bright LEDs, & the specs on them, is they grow dimmer with age long before their "lifetime" is up. How useful will that dim overpriced projector be if it's grown too dim to barely be seen after 3,000-5,000 hours?

Notice the LED display on your alarm clock, DVD player or VCR has grown too dim in just a few years?

- All Infiniti vehicles are great cars, however more specifically the best year for the 1st generation of the G35 sedans are the 2005-2006 models because they where given facelifts & revised both in and out, the 2005 + models received new LED tail lights, a revised 3.5 liter V6 producing 280 HP VS the 260 HP in the 2003-2004 models. It also got a revised front fascia and revised interior.

- The best year for the 2nd generation of the G35/G37 sedans are the 2009-2012 models. The G35 sedans from the years 2007-2008 where revised in 2009 and given a 3.7 liter V6 engine producing 328 HP which explains why its name was quickly prompted & changed from a G35 to a G37. The 2007-2008 G35 models have a 3.5 liter V6 with 306 HP. Also the to be more specific the 2010-2012 models are the latest of the G sedans, they received a facelift which gave them revised interiors and a new front fascia.

- The best year for the 1st generation of the G35 coupes are the 2005-2006 models because they where given facelifts & revised both in and out, the 2005 + models received new LED tail lights, Projector Xenon Headlights, and a revised 3.5 liter V6 producing 280 HP VS the 260 HP in the 2003-2004 models. It also got a revised front fascia and revised interior.

The best year for the 2nd generation of the G37 coupes are basically all of them because they have not received to many changes over the years however the 2011-2012 models did receive a facelift which gave them revised interiors and a new front fascia. All years of the G37 coupes still continue to have a 3.7 litter V6 engine producing 330 HP, nothing has changed in terms of the engine unless you are considering a 2012 IPL G37 coupe which has performance parts which increase its out put to 348 HP.

how good is the quality of a 1080p video camcorder?

Ryan

more specifically a bell and howard. how good is it if i want to film a youtube series

Answer
Hi Ryan:

Like anything online or with computers, you need to be accurate (spell things right) with your Question in order to get an accurate Answer. But, I understood what you meant.

You are talking about a "Bell & Howell" brand camcorder. Bell & Howell used to be a well-respected movie camera & film projector brand for over 100 years. (My first home-movie camera & projector was a Bell & Howell 8mm color setup, and the first professional motion picture camera I was trained on (shooting 16mm football sports films) was a Bell & Howell with motor-drive & 400-foot film magazine.)

In 2011, a company called Vista Capital bought the rights to the B&H brand name, and now Bluestar Alliance licenses the brand to various product manufacturers who have no connection to the original company.

From my personal experience, and from reading reviews of the latest "Bell & Howell" branded camcorder imports, the features and quality are not very good.

Even though the name "Bell & Howell" used to represent good-quality movie cameras, no self-respecting professional or competent amateur would be caught using a current Bell & Howell model.

If you'll look at Bluestar Alliance's website (http://www.bluestarbrands.com/ ) you'll notice how many "Text To Be Added" or "under-construction" pages are in the menu links. That doesn't build confidence in the parent company nor the brands it represents.

hope this helps,

I'm setting up a home theater and looking for input on video projectors help?

immatt

What should I look for?
How far can they be from the screen?
Do they work with Dish or DirectTV like a normal TV?

Any suggested brands or good deals?

Thanks!

Answer
See the 1st and 2nd links for reviews and recommendations. I'm not going to point to any specific brand/model since everyone's needs/preferences are different. I will say I have been happy with both the Canon and Epson projectors I have owned.

What to look for ...?

Well first note that projectors should be selected with the room and screen in mind. They all interrelate. For example, you need a projector that will fill the screen size and shape positioned where it needs to be given the room size and viewing position. Light conditions influence brightness requirements and can impact on screen selection. Where you mount the projector can influence projector selection (e.g. if you want to mount on a rear shelf the lens has to be able to focus the image at that distance).

I suggest reading lot's of reviews and the instructional articles at the links before even considering selecting a projector. Only then will you be able to make an informed choice. The calculator at the 3rd link will help you consider screen size for your room ... bigger isn't necessarily better.

Are there any 4k home theater projectors?

Smyth

If so, what are their advantages since Blu-ray movies are limited to 1920x1080? What are some considerations to take into account when considering one?

Answer
JVC and Meridian Audio are the only two manufacturers of which Iâm aware that are currently producing high-end â4Kâ video projectors targeted specifically for the home theater market. Sony, Barco, Christie Digital, and others are targeted for professional or commercial applications, including Digital Cinema. Pricing for the current crop of 4K (home theater) projector systems is well beyond the mainstream consumer home theater market.

âWhat are their advantages since Blu-ray movies are limited to 1920x1080?â

4K projectors designed for home theater use will upscale all non-4K video source material to 4K resolution much as high-definition TVâs, monitors, projectors, and BD players do with SDTV and DVD-Video source material. I am not aware of any commercial native 4K video content currently available to consumers.

âWhat are some considerations to take into account when considering one?â

The obvious is cost - the cost to purchase the projection system as well as the total cost of ownership (TCO), which includes maintenance, servicing, power consumption, (e.g. the JVC and the Meridian 4K projectors consume up to 1500 watts each,) thermal management, (i.e. cooling,) operating noise, and installation. Both projectors also require the use of DVI-D connectors â there are no HDMI connectors.

getting my laptop warranty at costco?

Q. For COMPUTERS, TELEVISIONS and PROJECTORS, Costco extends the MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY to two years from date of purchase.

i bought a laptop from there a little over a year ago. my battery needs to be replaced. do i need to bring in my laptop? or just the battery? will they replace the battery? how does it all work?

Answer
Batteries are only warrantied for 1 year and is not covered by any warranty extensions. This is true of ALL manufacturers -- because batteries are just like any batteries -- they're probably gonna die in about a year. You'll have to buy a new one.

i just bought an infocus lp650 projector for a little under 600.00 is that a good deal?

ernesto o

the projector has only 15hrs on a 2000 hour bulb are these good projectors? thanks ..whats the best projector for this price?

Answer
In Focus make some very good projectors so it's certainly a "brand name".

The LP650 is an older projector originally selling for over $3000. That said, projector prices have dropped in the last couple of years, so a new projector with equivalent performance would be in the $1000 range.

The specs (DLP, 1024x768, 2500 lumens, 800:1 CR, 1.4:1 zoom, component and digital input (M1), 35/33 dB noise) are a bit of a mix today. The digital and component capability are good, so is the high brightness level, but fan noise is a bit high and contrast ratio is weak in today's world (That said the rated 800:1 is quite possibly comparable to projectors today rated at 2000:1 or even more due to the lack of standard methadology).

I can't comment whether the DLP colour wheel speed will be high enough to minimize the possibility of inducing "rainbow effect" (look elsewhere on the site at the 1st link for further info) if you are susceptible. Older projectors sometimes had slow wheels (less than 4X) that increased the chance ... but most people are not particulelry sensitive, so it may be entirely a non issue. On a positive point DLP projectors arguably have better longivity than LCD projectors.

Yoiu could probably get a projector with 800x600 resolution for $300-$400, but what you have is a name brand projector, that should work well in a home theatre environment (depending on video processing capability ... but IF are well respected in general).

Considering a new lamp is $550 from at least one source (2nd link), I think you got a fair deal (It wouldn't have been if it were an old lamp). That said ... read the 3rd link on how to maximize lamp life.

What Home Theatre Projector has the cheapest bulb to replace?

Clayton A

I would like to purchase a projector with at least 800x600 that has a bulb replacement cost of under $100.
A friend told me that such a projector exists, but have yet to find it.
I also would like the projector to be less than $600.

Answer
I would like to find a cheap bulb for replacement too. Just hope mine never needs to be replaced. As far as you wanting a projector under $600, just remember you get what you pay for. I'm sure you can find one but don't plan on having good results from it.

About 3D home theater projectors ?

Dallasguy

I am very fan of 3D movies. I thinking to buy 3D projector in my home theater. People are saying these 3D projector are not real 3D projectors like in movie theaters and also saying we don't feel like 3D picture. How much is it True?. Is it worth to buy 3D home theater projectors? Which are the best projectors?

Answer
Its true, some projectors CAN give a bad 3D output but not if you choose the correct projector. The upcoming Panasonic PT-AE7000 can be a good option as it has an amazing contrast ratio of 300000:1 and 2000 lumens. According to review it seems great. It will be releasing in september. You should take a look at it or you can even even check out JVC projectors.

What is the best Home Theater system in terms of sound quality and picture under $1500 each?

elmogunit

So Im getting a home theater but i need to know what the best reciever for 5.1 is or if i even need one if I get the bose 321, the projector type, if bose 321 will work with it and my ps3 and the resolutions must be 1080p. Just about everything you need for a home theater but good quality for low price

Answer
first of all don't buy the bose 321 systems, they are worthless for the price they make you pay. I guess I am not clear on if you are talking about paying under $1500 for a tv and another under $1500 for sound or planning on using the 1500 for everything. in your question you are talking mostly about sound stuff but then you throw in the 1080p resolution, which has absolutely nothing to do with your sound system. It sounds like you are using the 1500 for just the sound system so let me help you out with that. there are two ways that you can look at this, and it will depend on how you want your system to work. I don't know if you were looking at the bose systems because of the fact that it only has two speakers which would mean less wires or what. Personally piece together systems are a lot better system when you consider quality and accuracy of the sound.

here is a good example of a sound system that would be awesome for $1500

-$300 yamaha receiver - 5.1
-Klipsch B-2 bookshelf speakers - $300 per pair
-Klipsch surround speakers (i believe they are the S-1 or S-2 model)
-approx, $200 per pair
-Klipsch center channel approx. $200
-sony 12" subwoofer $200 (klipsch sub would be better, but I am trying to stick to your budget since the klipsch sub is $400 for their 10" size)
-100' spool of speaker wire $30 for offbrand, $60 for monster
-fiber optic cable to go from your ps3 to your receiver for sound $20 for off brand, $40 for monster
-subwoofer cable $15 for off brand, $30 for monster

probably just over $1300 after tax

Front projector:
For your picture if you are doing a front projector, go with a DLP projector first of all, much better for your movies, smoother images, better color accuracy. for your price you would have to go with optoma in order to get a 1080p front projector for $1500, and it would have to be on sale, probably.

Rear projection (LCD or DLP Rear projection)
Sony is all I have to say here, just get whatever 1080p size that you can squeeze into your budget

is plasma better if you dont care about its thickness and energy cost?

Might Guy

i saw 2 60in TVs, one is plasma and the one is LED, the plasma one is like $300 - 400 cheaper. i read some article about plasma vs led, they all say they have pros and cons. but what i see is plasma usually have 600hz while cheaper LED are 120hz. does Hz matters?

also, none of the reviews i read talks about the life span. Usually, which TV has longer life span? from your personal experience or opinion, would get a plasma or a LED? say i am gonna be watching mainly sport and some movies on the TV.

Answer
- Short answer: If you read any article reviews that always recommend Plasma. Plasma has better response times which leads to less ghosting/lag and bundle that with their refresh rates (hz) that also means little/no motion blur for fast moving objects. Most tv manufacturers may not bother with the life span specification because both Plasma and LCD can easily last 10 years (with little quality loss) or 20+ years before quality becomes a factor. The government made manufacturers post a yellow sticker on their tv's stating power consumption and you will see that newer Plasma tv's will probably only cost $50 (6 hours a day every day) more a year than LCD.

- I recommend Panasonic Plasma OR I recommend Samsung LED (better and/or expensive LED may not have the problems stated below because of additional technologies going into them). - http://reviews.cnet.com/best-tvs-picture-quality/
- Input lag for gamers: HD-TV may have more input lag if there is more processing going and how well the TV can process it. Example 1: Most PS3 or Xbox 360 video games are 720p, it would take processing power to upscale it to 1080p for a 1080p HD-TV (unless PS4 or Xbox one video games are 1080p it would be a good idea to get a 1080p HD-TV). Example 2: Interpolation and refresh rates can cause more processing too.ect = Gamer mode can turn off these processes to get less input lag.
- HD-TV viewing distance calculations: http://isthisretina.com/ OR http://www.thx.com/consumer/home-entertainment/home-theater/hdtv-set-up/ OR http://www.sony-asia.com/support/faq/47537 OR http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimum_HDTV_viewing_distance
- I am not going to talk about HD-TV features like 3D or smart HD-TV. Im not going to talk about projectors. Im not going to talk about the new OLED (RGB or W) HD-TV's.

- A plasma HD-TV is sometimes called an emissive display, the panel is actually self-lighting for each pixel. The display consists of two transparent glass panels with a thin layer of pixels sandwiched in between. Each pixel is composed of three gas-filled cells or sub-pixels (one each for red, green and blue). A grid of tiny electrodes applies an electric current to the individual cells, causing the gas (a mix of neon and xenon) in the cells to ionize. This ionized gas (plasma) emits high-frequency UV rays, which stimulate the cells' phosphors, causing them to glow the desired color.
= Better contrast = Plasma's have better black levels, but worse white levels. Plasma's are a emissive display which means better brightness accuracy and better color accuracy.
= Better viewing angles = Plasma is a emissive display, it has little/no picture problems when viewed of axis (not directly in front of screen).
= Better for dark-lit rooms, but worse for bright-lit rooms = Plasma's can have screen glare and less contrast and less brightness and faded colors in bright-lit rooms, but they have little/none of these problems in dark-lit rooms. Better and/or expensive Plasma's may use less reflective glass.
= Better response times = Plasma's florescent phosphor coating in each subpixel stops glowing just a few nanoseconds after the electrode turns off (on and off) which means less lag and less ghosting.ect
= Better refresh rates = Plasma's better response times bundled with it's sub-feild drives or focused-feild drives take each of a it's pixel's sub-pixels and flashes it a number of times to create a image, the way Plasma works has little motion blur with sub-feild drives or little/no motion blur (and better brightness control, color quality, contrast.ect) with focused-feild drives. (Plasma can use interpolation for judder too).
= Worse screen size options, and worse weight (thicker), and worse manufacturer choices = Plasma is a emissive display which makes it hard to make a Plasma screen size smaller than 40 inches for HD-TV and you may not find them larger than 70 inches for HD-TV because the power consumption will sky rocket. Plasma's tend to about 10-20 pounds heavier too and are thicker but that can provide better audio quality tho. Main brand Plasma maker is Panasonic or Samsung or LG.
= Worse power consumption, and worse life span, but better burn in, but worse high altitudes = A plasma can cost on average around $50 a year more. A Plasma can easily last 10 years and much more. Newer Plasma's have burn in technologies that make really hard or not possible to have permanent burn in, but there sill a chance you could get temporary burn in (even tho it's harder to do now). Plasma may not work in really high altitudes and if it does the TV would create a buzzing sound.
= Price = Plasma is more expensive to buy than LCD CCFL, but Plasma is less expensive to buy than LCD LED. Plasma does not cost that much to make.

- An LCD HD-TV is sometimes referred to as a transmissive display, the panel has sections of lighting for a section of pixels. Light isn't created by the liquid crystals themselves; instead, a light source behind the LCD panel shines through the display (CCFL LCD or LED LCD). A diffusion panel behind the LCD redirects and scatters the light evenly to ensure a uniform image. The display consists of two polarizing transparent panels and a liquid crystal solution sandwiched in between. The screen's front layer of glass is etched on the inside surface in a grid pattern to form a template for the layer of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals are rod-shaped molecules that twist when an electric current is applied to them. Each crystal acts like a shutter, either allowing light to pass through or blocking the light. The pattern of transparent and dark crystals forms the image.
= Worse contrast = LCD's have worse black levels, but better white levels. LCD's are a transmissive display which means it is edge-lit or full-array-lit and it also uses local dimming (aka backlight-flashing/scanning) which turns off sections of CCFL or LED which means you can get brightness uniformity problems (brightness leaks into areas and you can see the brightness changing to make up LCD's bad contrast and slow brightness changes.ect) which means less brightness accuracy and less color accuracy .ect (Better and/or expensive LCD use LED lights and more emissive local dimming display and more advance technologies to get a picture as good or better than a Plasma).
= Worse viewing angles = LCD uses a CCFL backlight or a LED backlight (transmissive display), and the LCD pixels act like shutters (and the red, green, blue filters), opening and closing to let light through or block it, this shutter effect causes increasing variations in picture brightness as viewers move further off axis (not directly in front of screen) which means you may notice that the picture looks less bright and vivid and you might see slight changes in color too (IPS > TN).
= Worse for dark-lit rooms, but better for bright-lit rooms = LCD's have the most light coming off from their screen which may strain your eyes in a dark-lit rooms, but they have little/no screen glare and little/no picture problems in bright-lit rooms.
= Worse response times = LCD'S liquid crystals take longer to change from on or off (switch around) which means more lag and more ghosting.ect
= Worse refresh rates = LCD's have more worse response times bundled with it's refresh rates which use backlight-flashing/scanning or fake interpolation frames (for judder too) or just repeat the same real frames which help reduce motion blur, but does not eliminate motion blur.
= Better screen size options, and better weight (thinner), and better manufacturer choices = LCD is a transmissive display which makes it easier to make a LCD screen size very small like around 20 inches and you may find them larger than 70 inches because they use less power consumption. LCD's tend to be about 10-20 pounds lighter too and are thinner (edge-lit displays are even thinner) but that can provide worse audio quality tho. Many brands of manufacturer to choice from.
= Better power consumption, and better life span, and little/no burn in, and little/no altitude problems = A LCD or a LED can cost on average around $50 a year less. A LCD or a LED can easily last 10 years and much more.
= Price = LCD LED is more expensive to buy than Plasma, and LCD LED is even more expensive to buy than CCFL LCD. LED and all the advance technologies going into them make cost more to make, but that's why there is budget LCD versions instead.

need a home projector for 700.?

carlos_oce

looking for something with good picture quality.

Answer
If you want good picture quality, you need to save $3-600 more. Good 720p projectors start at about $1000.

With projectors you get what you pay for, so you would be disappointed with the quality out of a $700 projector.

Panasonic projector lamp?

KD

I bought a panasonic pt ax100u projector which has a bulb expected to live around 800 hours around 700 it started to shut off once then have to be turned on and worked fine...well after 4 months later and having to turn the darn thing on 5 times before it stays on im curious as to if its a bulb issue or something else. I thought bulbs just died or dimmed for like 2 weeks then died...any thoughts?

Answer
I don't know that projector, and while it could be the bulb may be some other issue. Not much help so far ... eh?

Consider three things ... first, 800 hrs is very low. 2000-3000 hrs is more typical (although bulbs can blow at any time ... particularly if the projector is shut off before inadequate lamp cooling, subject to power cuts, run too hot for too long, etc).

Second, bulbs do generally slowly dim, although they can actually shatter. In recognition of the latter I have read that some projectors have a lamp usage timer that will trigger a visual warning at some set point, and then actually shut down the projector at the limit set by the manufactuer. I don't believe this is common, but it is done. That said, it would be a poor scheme that still allowed restart after multiple shut downs. But you never know ...

Third, consider some type of cooling related problem (e.g. a plugged or semi-plugged cooling filter). That said, this is usually a go/no go based on triggering the protection circuits because of heat rise, rather than an intermittent thing. But maybe ...

The real test would be to try putting in a spare bulb (you do have one by now, right?) and see if it cures the problem. If no ... it's something else. If so, it was the lamp.

Except for if you change the lamp --- in which case you probably have an answer as to whether it is the lamp or something else -- you probably should check with Panasonic support or the dealer you bought it from and see what they say if you describe the problem.

Good luck.

what do u guys think of this?
i see it on ebay for $474.95
would u guys recommend this or something under $500?

Answer
www.projectorpeople.com

they will be able to answer any questions you would have. In my opinion I would be hesitant to buy a projector off of ebay, is this a new or used one. Remember most projectors bulbs have a life expectancy of around 2,000 hrs and most bulbs cost $200 to $400. Make sure to look at the Lums is it widescreen or not. Go to proectorpeople and they have a section where you can fill out what you are looking for and recomend projectors two you.

Home projection theater set up for under $2,000.?

The R-uh

I want a home theater (projector and projector screen) for under $2,000. I thought about LCD but I can't get the size for the price. I'm also budgeting $1,000-$1,500 on seating if someone has a good recommendation on where to get some good theatre style seats for under $1,000 (enough to sit 6 people).

Please let me know what you recommend for a high quality/low budget home theatre.

FYI,
Not so concerned with audio for the theater, I have plenty of audio equipment already.

Thanks already.

Answer
Hmm... sounds like a fun project!
I'd check with your local small theatre and see if they have extra seats... if not, you can ask them where they get their seats.

Good Luck!

Best value movie projector - cheaper the better?

Ben

Would use it to watch an occasional movie, tv tuner is not required, would be good if it has a connection for pc. Standard definition is ok, has to be below 800 dollars. Any help is appreciated

Answer
I personally will never go back to a TV after experiencing the immersive experience of movies and HDTV on a 100" screen via a projector. But they are not for everyone.

There are projectors available in your price range ... mainly so-called "business" projectors. All will accommodate a PC. None have tuners for TV (although a few have a built in DVD player). True home theatre -- optimized for movies -- projectors start at about $1000. See the link below for further information.

That said, there are some excellent used projectors on the market so you may be able to go that route ... although be aware that lamps eventually (3-4 years at 2-3 hr/day) wear out and can cost $400-$500 to replace, so take that into account. Also, while you can use a blank white wall or even a bed sheet, optimal pictures require a screen ... which can cost $200 - $2000.

Hope that helps.

What is the best projector for the value ? ?

Super

i have looked into many projectors, the optoma hd20 is affordable yet doesnt compete against the newest projectors. I want to get the epsonpowerlite 1050 but its 2600 dollars. so if anyone knows of a projector that ha really nice quality and is afforable, please help me out!

Answer
Your idea of best value may differ from someone else (because what features you value may differ from someone else). See reviews at the links for excellent suggestions.

In general you get what you pay for. Expect to pay >$1000 for a "good" projector.

about lumens projectors?

i heard there really cheap, you can buy a 1000 or 1500 on ebay brand new for under 500, it also says bulbs on it last 6000 hours, and they only cost 50 bucks per bulb, this seems to good to be true, i heard all projector bulbs can only last 1000 hours

Answer
There may be some confusion here.

Lumens is a measure of projector brightness. A typical Home theatre projector is rated at 1000-1500 lumens, but this is reduced to 300-500 when adjusted for optimum colour accuracy.

Lamps are typically rated to last 2000-4000 hrs (I don't know of any that claim more) but actual can last much shorter (or, presumably) somewhat longer, depending on how they are treated.

Cost vary from about $200 - $500 .... I've never heard of a normal projector lamp that costs $50.

So, any projector claiming 1000+ lumens brightness and with a 6000 hr lamp life @ $50 to replace is either a significant breakthrough (unlikely), will have horrible colour accuracy, or is a scam.

How To Get Ps3 In 3D on projector?

PERSON.

i bought a projector and it has 3d cabapilities but it does not come with 3d shutter classes

can i buy some and somehow connect them with the projector and make it enabled with the ps3

because right now the ps3 does not even recognize the 3d projector but it still has the regular image

how can i make my projector be 3d ???

right now i just have those 3d glasses you get at the movie theatre

Answer
It will ultimately depend on what 3D capable projector you've purchased and the games you're playing. Very few PS3 games are currently available in digital 3D.

The RealD polarized glasses you have from the movie theater will not work with your projector. RealD is a polarized system that works on an entirely different principle. The type of glasses you'll need for your projector are known as "Active Shutter" glasses, as well as a compatible emitter. You may also need a box that makes the PS3's 3D output compatible with the 3D capabilities of your projector, but that will depend on which model you're using.

I recommend you check out Explore3DTV.com, which has a great deal of information on the new 3D products. I've put some handy links for you in the sources area below to help you learn more.
