Projector : getting the most out of my projector?

I just bought an Optoma ezpro 739 projector at $700 i thought it was a steal. I am running my movies and games through Svideo out of my laptop with an ATI card. What are the settings I should adjust to get the best picture quality both on my laptop and projector . Also where could I find a good quality screen? What should I look for in a projector screen?
Can I use a certain type of white paint on the wall to simulate a screen??? thanks.

Hi, tigger (above) has given you the settings.Projector screens are usually available as a fixed screen on a wall or a motorized screen which retracts into a housing near the ceiling. Or you could paint one on a wall with flat white paint but won't give you the results of a proper screen.
If you decide to buy a proper screen look for a uniform flat non reflective white area with a 1 to 2 inch flat black border all around. Make sure you get a 16 : 9 screen so you can view widescreen programs.

Whats a good over head projector that I can use on a wall to paint?

I was wonder if any can give many any suggestions on a over head projector that I can use to stencil a wall so I can paint a portrait. Is it even possible to get a image projected big enough on the wall?

Yes, it is possible. Overhead projectors are usually for graphics but a slide projector will make an image on a wall as big as you want

They also list other budget-minded screen solutions, such as a $75 sheet of laminate (the countertop material made for gluing to plywood).

I went to the local art store and bought a large white canvas frame on sale. It's doing well for me until I have the funds to invest in something better.

As a previous answerer noted, AVS Forum has a wealth of information. As someone who has both painted and built a screen, here are some options:

If you really want to paint the wall, first make sure it's absolutely free of defects, they'll drive you crazy. Then paint with Behr Silver Screen (770E-2) available at Home Depot. A white paint will also work (such as Behr Ultra Pure White 1850) Use flat, not semi-gloss.

But a very important part of a screen is a dark border, it makes the image pop, improves apparent contrast, makes it look much more real. You can build a frame out of wood and black velvet fabric, or paint one on the wall with flat black.

I personally would recommend buying or building a screen you can hang. There are kits on eBay, and premade screens are not terribly expensive. If you want to DIY, you can either buy a sheet of 1/4" MDF board and paint that, or simply buy a piece of WilsonArt Designer White laminate, which can be painted, but actually makes a very nice screen untreated. Then build or paint a border around it.

A good screen is essential. Good luck.

can i find something on lowes....or home depot...?

Hello!

My name is Christine and I work in the paint department at Home Depot. 'Silver Screen' is by far the most popular Home Depot color people use for their projection screen wall. You will also want to make sure you get it in flat, so there is no reflection.
