Will subwoofer vibrations affect projector lamp life?

tacopacofo

The subwoofer vibrates the walls and ceiling where it is mounted.

Answer
Definitely. You should place the subwoofer at least one foot from the wall where the projector is mounted and atop a speaker stand which is 4-6 inches in height.

Good luck!

is 5000 hours of lamp life in projectors long?

Answer
It's certainly on the longer end of the norm for a non-LED projector. Most high pressure lamps in projectors are rated for 2-4000 hrs of use (with longer life in "eco mode"). Some claim up to 5000 hrs. BUT lamp lifetime is quite variable depending on how the lamp is treated and how one defines lifetime (lamps can still work but be much dimmer ... does this count?). I wouldn't be surprised to find that some claims of long lifetime lamps are inflated by including the tail end of the life cycle that more reputable manufacturers don't count. .

For example, rapid on-off cycles on a projector will shorten life significantly, while leaving the lamp on continually may give much longer lifetime than turning off after use (although much of the "lifetime" would then be wasted).

LED lamps -- available on some pico projectors and starting to show up on full size models have much longer lifetimes (20,000 hrs and more).
