Hi, I have an amazing movie collection and I wanted to update the technology that will make it better. So I thought why not make the experience better with a projector. I have done some basic research, but am very unsure on what will fit my needs. I want a projector that can be used inside or outside, Has a clear image, resistant to over heating and extra sounds. I want one that brings the movies to life when it is hooked up. I know that I am leaving some questions that many tech savy guys might be wanting to know and I may be asking too much of a projector, but if there is any advice to give on models and add ones to help achieve my goal, I'd love to hear them. I'm planning on updating my sound system too, so keep that it mind when suggesting something. Not sure what sound model besides a surround sound, so a projector that can mesh well with that or really good speakers would be helpful. As for price range, I've learned it won't be cheap, but I would like to keep it under 3,000, I'm not made of money, but I am willing to twist my arm to get my dream movie room. Any help or suggestions are thanked and will at least point me in the direction that I want to go.

How long do projector bulbs last while playing video games and or watching movies?

I'm prone to watch 3 movies in a row, or play gta4, assasin's creed, Madden. For 4-6 hours straight, did I make a mistake by buying a projector, Pro6 series?
Answer
Keeping the projector on for hours at a time is actually better than turning it on/off/on/off multiple times per day.
I am pulling from memory here but a standard life span for a normal HDTV was something like 5,000 hours which matches something like 7 years of normal family viewing.
A projector bulb is rated at something like 1,000-2,000 hours of use. And this varies based on how well vented the projector is, how clean you keep the filter, how often you cycle power, etc.
Your manual should list the "MTBF" Mean Time Between Failures for your particular model.
Most projectors fail because of the bulb burning out and it might be a good idea to purchase a replacement bulb now rather than waiting for the bulb to stop working and then being without the projector for a few days while a replacement shows up.
Friends of mine who have moved to a projector system usually use it for more serious movie and big sports viewings. They often use a retractable screen and add a modest HDTV for the kids or casual TV watching.
So you did not make a mistake - but getting another bulb now might be a prudent investment.
