I have been assigned the work of doing a mural live on 10 feet by 10 feet wall in a crowded mall for a product launch. I have prepared the black and white artwork already and have asked the event organisers to get me a projector. But the real question is how exactly will my projector work in daylight or lights in mall as they are all properly lighted up? Also will my black and white illustration be projected properly or is there any other way or suggestion to do it??
Additional Details
My black and white illustration is a jpg image created in computer via photoshop. My laptop will be connected with the projector at the event and though the event is in the evening, it is indoors in the mall and is well lit from all sides. with the black white image not show on the blank white canvas screen?
Answer
Whether it will show up or not will depend on the power of the projector and how much light there is, and the distance between the projector and the wall. Most regular digitial projectors you might use in an office environment are designed for use in a darkened room.
You might need to get them to change the lighting, you might need to get a more powerful projector.

projector brightness for daytime use?
john smith
I am looking to buy a projector for my home and I was just wondering how bright of a projector I would need for daytime use. From looking at different projectors I have seen the brightness range from 20 lumen to 4600 lumen and I want to know which is right for me. I have a projector screen in my back room which has quite a few windows. I used to have an older sharp projector which really only worked during night but it broke so now I am looking for a new one. I also do not know the brightness of my last one so I have nothing to compare to. If anyone could let me know I would appreciate it.

Very few (no?) projectors look good in daylight, or even with significant ambient light ... at least on a regular screen. There are special screens (for one example, see the link) that allow projectors to work well with ambient light, even in daylight, but they are expensive!. Many people say the inability to get a good picture in daylight makes a projector a poor choice relative to an HDTV. But even an LCD TV (Plasma TVs are usually less bright) with brightness turned up will have a somewhat washed out picture.
Bottom line is the better you can control light the better the picture (you kill contrast in a bright room). That said, a 2500+ lumens projector on a 80"-90" screen should work OK in a fairly bright room.
