Projection from a Video Camera to a projector screen?

Q. Hey everybody,
Hope you' re good
A very good friend of mine is having a wedding in a short while and needs help projecting the whole occasion. His reason being that people don't normally get see vital parts (exchange of vows, Ring on finger etc). There will be roughly 200 people around. And the idea is basically a connection from a video camera to a projector with a live feed. Don't have any idea on it. Hope you understand me. Will be very grateful if i get help on this. Thanks a lot. Counting on you !

Answer
ALL camcorders have an AV-out jack. Connect the yellow, composite video, connection to the projector's composite video input. You will probably need a LON RCA extension cable and female-female RCA adapter. Radio Shack and Fry's Electronics - and pretty much any other decent electronics store should have these items.

You may have to go into the camcorder's menu to select the "external video monitor".

Prove this works well in advance of the wedding so you are not stuck at the wedding. And see how long the camcorder timer is for auto shut-down... or whether there is a menu selection in the camcorder to never shut down automatically.

How do I transmit a live video feed from a video camera to a tv/projector?

I have a large event, and I want to take a handheld video camera, and transmit the live shot to a projector on stage. How can this be accomplished?

Answer
The folks at professional football games do it all the time - but not with consumer-grade handheld equipment.

The *shoulder mount camera* is attached to the wireless video transmitter. A *shoulder mount camera* is used because it is steadied by resting on the camera-person's shoulder. You can do something similar with a shoulder rig if the consumer grade camera is what is available. DO NOT do this handheld. The projected video will be poor, at best. There is no camcorder based stabilization that will provide a steady shot when doing what you are suggesting (handheld). A vest mounted Steadycam system with a counter-balanced articulated arm (like a Merlin 2 + arm + vest) is even better (as your arms will not get tired from holding the camera for long periods of time).

The wireless transmitter sends the video to a base station. The base station plugs into the monitor. These wireless systems are expensive because high quality video uses a LOT of bandwidth. In the case of the Titan wireless system, a belt-battery pack for power to the transmitter can work. You'll also need two power supplies (assuming the power supply for the receiver can plug into regular power, the transmitter's power supply will plug into the battery belt.

Yes, there are other ways to do this. Video quality will be less than decent. There's a reason why the pros do this. They know what can provide useful quality.

Consumer-grade video cameras are designed to conserve power. Most will go to sleep (and stop transmitting) after a few minutes. Since we don't know which camcorder you plan to use, we don't know if there is a menu option to turn off the sleep timer.
