How do i get my HDMI Projector to display hd?

Dale

I recently purchased a projector. It has vga, s video, and composite video inputs. It is an hdmi projector and says it should display up to 1080i. How do I hook my dvd player/ps3 so it will play hd. To my little knowledge of A/V s video and composite are not capable of carrying hd. Any suggestions would help.

Answer
You're correct that composite and S won't do HD.

1) Are you sure about that "HDMI" tag? HDMI is a cable/socket connection. It's not the same as HD - High Definition. If your projector has just VGA, S-Video and Composite then it doesn't sound like a HD projector to me. A model number would help.

2) 1080i is a HD resolution signal. To get that in to a projector you'll need either a HDMI socket (which it sounds like you haven't got) or, at a push you could use Component if the source device has it as well *and* the signal isn't encrypted for security. Those are really long odds though if you don't live in the USA. You might be lucky with a Sky satellite receiver, but rarely with Blu-ray players. They tend to limit the signal resolution to 480p or 576p with movies on Blu-ray disc. The PS3 will play games out via Component in HD though.

Component looks like these marked Y Pr Pb: http://www.itsacon.net/articles/vidcon/images/RCA_sockets.jpg

3) There's a lot of cheap Chinese rubbish being flogged online. The specs are extremely vague and the blurb seems to promise the earth for a very low price. If it was a new projector just check what you have bought meets the description so you know you haven't bought a lemon.

Good luck

What is a good cheap projector that supports HDMI?

In Love

I am looking to set up a small home theater system in my house and I have all the audio figured out i just need visual. I wasn't going to buy a Flat Screen because those things are way to expensive for me. I was just wondering what is a good projector that supports HDMI and has good response time as well (like for gaming) and preferably 720P. Now maybe i am asking too much and a projector with all that might be as much as a TV but i guess I am just wondering. Thanks in advance! :)
Ohh and another quick thing, it doesnt have to be name brand or look cool or anything it just has to work well and be priced right.

Answer
Typically a flat screen is less money than a projector dollar for dollar. When it comes to projectors there is basically no such thing as cheap if you what just decent quality. Putting it this way, a 50' Plasma TV from Panasonic for $1000 will be way better than any projector you can buy USED for the same money, you will of course get a bigger picture but the quality will be sub par to say the least. Add to this the cost of the screen and replacing $300 bulbs every year or so your "cheap" used projector will cost you way more than a brand new Plasma!

If you are still determined to go projector a good JVC used will be at least $2K... then the bulb replacement and the screen, mounting etc....... go Plasma and save yourself some money.

the hdmi input on my epson projector quit?

Etha

Answer
Try different HDMI sources to the projector. If the projector receives HDMI signal passing through any other device (such as surround sound receiver etc.), bypass or eliminate that device and connect the source (DVD Player or PC etc.) direct to the projector in a effort to determine the problem. Try changing the HDMI Video Resolution (1080p 60Hz, 1080i 24Hz etc.) at the source device if possible, the projector may display a lower resolution and not a higher resolution, this is typically due to an HDMI link bandwidth issue. Make sure you are using a Category 2 High Speed HDMI cable tested to 340MHz.

Xbox to projector using HDMI / Component cable?

ToastandBa

I am trying to hook up my Xbox to my projector.

I have an HDMI to component cable.
Shown here:
http://www.amazon.com/Component-Video-Stereo-Audio-Cable/dp/B001IUQB2W

With this projector:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HD-1080i-Video-Projector-HDMI-Home-Theater-DVD-Wii-/280583628675?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4154166783

I have the projector set to "Y/PB/PR". Didn't work.
I had it set to "HDMI" Didn't work.
I've tried all the settings and the screen is still blue.

PLEASE HELP!

I don't want HDMI to HDMI because I want the surround sound for movies.

With just the HDMI cable or the AV cable the projector works fine.

Answer
Your cable is completely bogus. There is no such thing as a simple cable that can convert from analog to digital nor vice versa. Read the reviews on Amazon for this cable, 47 out of 53 purchasers rated the cable one star! See link below:

http://www.amazon.com/Component-Video-Stereo-Audio-Cable/product-reviews/B001IUQB2W/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar

Your second issue: this is not an HD projector. Right there in the ad, it says the projector's native resolution is 640 x 480. Try lowering your game's output resolution to 1024 x 768, or 720P. Sorry, but your projector is a cheap toy. You paid $200.00. You got a $200.00 projector. You get what you pay for.

Projector?

I want to buy a projector but I have no idea which one is the best. I need one that I can hook up dvd/vcr/gaming systems to, but they all seem so expensive. Are there and affordable projectors that will do what I need?

Answer
I have an IN72 and it's great for a 480p especialy with the HDMI 1080i connected to an HDMI source..bbbuuuuttttt...you WILL want a true HD 720p projector, trust me..within a week or so of having ANY 480p projector you will begin to nit pick and notice flaws and natural limitations of 480p,though great for the budget minded and the entry level projector-it's still no match for a quality 720p.

How would it be if i connected my PS3 to a DLP Projector via a HDMI port?

ImperialDu

Would the clarity of the game play and movies reduce if i connected my Playstation3 Console to an Infocus IN72 DLP projector via a HDMI port?

Answer
DLP displays tend to be not very good for gaming, as they can introduce a noticeable lag between receiving the video signal, and displaying it. Rhythm games, such as Rock Band or Guitar Hero, may very well be unplayable (unless they have a "HDTV calibration" setting in their options, but not all games do that). I'm unsure about whether or not that would apply to the projector you specified, but as a rule, DLP and Plasma displays aren't as good for gaming as LCD displays.

Good projectors that are ideal for gaming tend to cost over $1000 (for a 720p/1080i-capable projector, a 1080p projector would probably cost considerably more).
