NEC LT280 Projector review?

I am considering of purchasing the NEC LT280 Projector for $800 for my home tv/theater, can anyone advise me if this is a good purchase? I can't find any reviews on the NEC LT280 Projector.

About the only thing I can see that might prevent me from purchasng it is the rather low Contrast rating of 600:1.

Here's a couple more that I can recommend, that are cheaper than the one you are looking at, if you look around.

I see the one you're looking at is 2500 lumens which is way more than you need. Increase your contrast and decrease your lumens to about 1000 and you can save some $$$ and get a better picture.

My NEC NP400 projector is not coming on?

When i turn it on the status light and power botton become green as if it is trying to come on, after few second it sounds beep beep and then both power botton and status light goes orange. The lamp light is not coming on. What do i do?

The lamp is not striking. Read your manual. Take the lamp out and then reinsert it to make sure it's not a bad connection. If you still can't get the lamp to strike then it is likely that the lamp has expired. Buy a new lamp.

If this is already new lamp then the chances are that the projector's lamp ballast circuit is faulty. The ballast acts like a big battery. It stores up enough electrical charge to create the big spark required to start a lamp. Projectors use arc lamps. The electricity has to jump a small gap to create the arc. Mains electricity is not enough on its own, that's why the projectors need a lamp ballast.

If the lamp ballast is faulty then it will need to be replaced. The cost of a new ballast is often more than the price of a lamp.

Question about a Projector?

It says here that this projector is capible of 1080i, does that mean its" true hd"?
i will be running a Blu-ray player though its s-video port, an Xbox though the Svga.

The NEC projector you linked to has a native resolution of 800x600, so while it can accept a 1080i image (1440x1080), it will still have to scale it down to 800x600 to display it, which is not technically HD.

If you want an HD projector, you would need to get a projector with a native resolution of either 1280x720 (720p) or 1440x1080 (1080p). Also, that projector appears to be geared towards showing static computer presentations, where sharpness and edge delineation are more important than natural color reproduction or full motion video. It's a business projector and not a home theater projector (projectors that are designed to do both tend to do both poorly).

HD home theater projectors start at around $500-$600: http://www.google.com/products?q=720p+home+theater+projector&hl=en&aq=f .

If you do get a projector, connect the Blu-ray player with component or HDMI cables. S-video does not support HD, it only carries SD 480i, 4:3 video (not 16:9 widescreen).

NEC NP100 vs Epson Powerlite S5 Projector?

I am considering buying a projector. OfficeMax offers the Epson Powerlite S5 Projector for a price I can afford, and Staples offers the NEC NP100 for the exact same price. I understand that the contrast is different (one is 400:1 and the other one is 1200:1, which I really don't get. Is the highest number better?) Are there any other differences besides that? I used the Epson in my classroom, and I showed movies in it and it worked awesome, and I read some really good reviews of the NEC. Any suggestions?

PS: I know that more expensive projectors are better. That's why they're more expensive. I'm just asking about these two.

I couldn't find anywhere the Optoma for under $600, and that's a $150 difference, which is quite a lot for me. I went with the NEC. Thank you!

I would go with the NEC projector with the 1200:1 contrast, the higher the better. Make sure that you can replace the bulbs when it goes out and that parts are readily available from Staples. Check out the Epson for replacement of bulbs also. Most projectors lamps only last 2,000 hours.

Suggestions on connecting my intel macbook to a NEC projector?

I bought the mini DVI to VGA connector and hooked it all up. The macbook recognized the projector, but the projector didn't recognize the macbook. I switched it to mirror the monitor and messed with the resolution, but didn't have any positive results. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Did you configure the projector to accept video from the DVI port?

ie: switch the input source on the projector itself

It should be somewhere in the onscreen menus under either 'source' or 'input'

If you still have warranty by all means call the maker because it sounds like an internal error.

If it is getting old it may have just "died."

Is it possible to connect a PS3 (game console) to a projector using RCA cables?

The situation is;

I have a PS3 which I am currently using on my living room TV with RCA cable i.e. the 'red, yellow and white wires'. I don't have a HDMI cable and am not fussy about having the absolute best graphic/quality.

Recently I purchased an NEC projector for my room. It doesn't have HDMI socket but it does have RCA. I thought since I'm already using RCA for the TV, it would work on the projector. I saw some forums discussions the other day and their seemed to be some sort of confusion on this topic,

I've already connected my DVD player to the NEC projector (using RCA) and it works just fine. Will it be the same for my PS3?

In case you're wondering why I don't just connect the PS3 and see what happens, my TV is hooked up to many things and it would be a lot of hassle to locate the wires and unplug them. I'd rather be absolutely certain that it would work before doing so.

If you want the best graphic then RCA jack are not very good. They can only handle up to the 280P resolution. Projectors have video inputs similar to a tv, but it does not support any audio. You next option for a better video is the S-Video or Component (3 RCA jack color coded in Red, Green and Blue, this will provide you 1 720P resolution) cable. Hope this will help you out.
